Rising Stars: Meet Michael Castellano of St Louis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Castellano.

Hi Michael, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I noticed when I would attend these big public events, such as Party In The Park, Food Truck Friday, Grub N Grove, Farmers Markets, there was not a cigar to be found anywhere. There are 100 people selling things, but no one was selling cigars. In 2016 when I drafted this idea, you could not buy a used UPS truck for less than $20,000. I then pivoted to the trailer idea and was able to get a custom inclosed trailer made to the specs I wanted. The best way to describe it, would be a food truck for cigars. It is climate controlled, Spanish cedar top to bottom, 30-35 cigar facings in glass cabinets, leather chairs, awning and pop up tent, satellite TV, and a fire pit for colder climates.

After years of grinding and optimizing my website, I have traveled all over the midwest and have established about two dozen repeat clients that I cater to almost exclusively. I work with wedding coordinators, country clubs, various charities, and private clients.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road to today, almost 10 years later. However I quickly worked out the kinks. It is a fairly small operation. The concept has been so well received that I have helped half a dozen other “cigar trucks” open throughout the country.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a full time Firefighter/Paramedic and have been for almost 20 years. Helping my community and being a father my two daughters can look up to I take tremendous pride in.
