Rising Stars: Meet Stephanie Farmer of St Louis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Farmer.

Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My health and fitness journey truly started about 11 years ago. I was genuinely so tired of feeling awful and hating myself. I discovered a way of eating called “if it fits your macros” that let me still eat the things I loved in moderation and help heal my relationship with food at the time. I started going on daily 3 mile walks to get my body moving and within a year I had lost nearly 90 pounds. Over the last 2 years I started focusing on weight training and then I stumbled upon body recomp. I found a way of training that I really love and I think that’s helped keep me consistent. Watching myself lift heavier and get stronger over time has helped motivate me when I’m necessarily not “feeling” it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My path during my health and fitness journey has definitely been a bumpy one at times. I’ve been on both ends of the spectrum whether I’m not eating enough, restricting myself, and overdoing it in the gym or I’m eating too much, overindulging until I’m sick, and not moving my body at all. I do feel like I end up finding my way back to a healthy balance eventually each time but it really can be a vicious cycle.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have worked in the elementary education setting for the last 15 years! The years kind of all blur together so every once in a while when I run into some of my past students and hear that they’ve graduated high school or college it blows my mind because it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long since I had them in my group. It always takes me by surprise when I have old students remember me. My mom always tells me I’m making a difference even though I don’t think I am.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I don’t have one particular memory that really sticks out as being my favorite unfortunately, but I’ve been very lucky to create some of my favorite memories so far as an adult. Most of my favorite memories usually involve my best friend and pretty much any trip we’ve ever been on! One of the more memorable moments we had was on the beach right before it was going to rain. We had had a long travel morning and even tho it was cloudy we just wanted to sit on the beach. This guy came up to us, pointed to the sky and said “that’s rain folks!” We were definitely not thrilled in the moment and I’m sure our faces showed that but looking back on it always makes us laugh. To this day we still quote it whenever we see rain!
