Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Cynova.
Hi Melissa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started reading tarot cards in 1991. It was an odd thing to do back then, but my parents were always supportive of my weirdness. I read throughout college, bartering for whiskey and cigarettes. I miss the 90’s. I started to go professional around 20 years ago, doing parties and office events. My relationship with the cards deepened as I got older, and I turned tarot cards into my hobby, my work, and an LLC.
I’m now an author with awards for Best New Author and Best First Book by the Independent Publishers. My sixth book will be called Kitchen Table Circle and will help folks protect themselves with mundane and magical means. There are also some tarot readings in there.
I’ve found that people get tarot readings when they’re unsure about the future or are excited to see what’s around the corner. My job is 10% looking into the future and 90% confirmation of their own intuition. They need to know that the things that they are working towards are happening. They just don’t notice because they’re looking at the future with anxiety, or at the past with regret. My job is to keep them in the present.
It’s my favorite thing to do in the world. Tarot readings are like a life realignment, and who doesn’t need one of those,
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Have you ever been a single mom? Sometimes this paid the mortgage. Sometimes. It’s still hit or miss as I haven’t released a book in a while. I got really sick and have the hospital bills to prove it. I’m finally able to write again, and I feel like I’m going to playing catchup for those three sick years for the rest of my life.
There have definitely been struggles. If you are the company, you can’t get sick. You certainly cant get sick for three years. That’s going to wreck your finances and make you worried that you’ll lose the house. You don’t get dental so you have to chew on the other side of your mouth for now.
I know that my book will be successful, but part of my illness is that I lost the ability to write. It’s back, but for how long, I don’t know. It depends on the meds.
So struggles. Yeah. lol
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m known for giving kind, honest tarot readings, that are also a little funny. Life is too hard to be taken entirely seriously. You have to laugh or you’ll drown from crying.
I’m a very good author and I love doing tarot readings. I feel that I’m just on the cusp of paying the mortgage every month and I’m really excited about that. I’m so proud that I’m coming back from the dark times.
I was a social worker for a long time, and have been reading tarot cards for longer than that. This has given me an encyclopedic knowledge of the human condition. I just understand people and meet them where they’re at. I think that folks can tell that I’m genuine.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Ha! That’s a great question for a tarot reader. I think that luck comes in waves. It ebbs and flows. You have to pay attention to when it’s flowing and ride that wave as long as you can. It will help you get through the ebbs.
