Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan And Madie Klein.
Hi Dan and Madie , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Six years ago, I attended my very first overnight paranormal investigation at the Missouri State Penitentiary. I went simply out of curiosity, but by the end of the night, I knew I had found something I was truly passionate about. What began as a hobby quickly became a calling. I immersed myself in the paranormal community, spent countless hours investigating historic locations, and eventually worked for a paranormal event company where I learned the ins and outs of hosting successful investigations.
As time went on, a friend and I realized we shared the same vision to create paranormal events that focused not only on the investigation itself, but also on providing an unforgettable experience for every guest. That vision led to the creation of Haunted Soulz Paranormal LLC.
Over the years, the business has evolved into something even more meaningful. Today, Haunted Soulz Paranormal is a family-owned and operated business that my daughter and I proudly run together. Being able to build something we’re both passionate about has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. We travel to some of the country’s most fascinating historic and reportedly haunted locations, bringing together people from all walks of life who share a curiosity about the unknown.
Three years ago, we expanded that passion by launching the Haunted Soulz Podcast on YouTube. What started as another way to connect with the paranormal community has grown into a successful platform where we interview investigators, historians, authors, and special guests while exploring haunted locations, true crime, folklore, and everything in between. Watching the podcast continue to grow has been incredibly rewarding and has allowed us to reach an even larger audience.
Looking back, it’s amazing to think that one overnight investigation sparked a journey that has become a thriving business, a growing podcast, and, most importantly, a way for my daughter and me to build something together. We’re grateful for every opportunity, every location we’ve visited, and every person we’ve met along the way. We can’t wait to see where the next chapter of our story leads.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s true of any business. Every challenge has taught us something and made us stronger.
One of the biggest turning points was during and after COVID. During that time, people were spending more time at home watching paranormal television shows and engaging with content on platforms like TikTok. Interest in the paranormal grew tremendously, and once restrictions were lifted, people were excited to get out and experience these historic and haunted locations for themselves. It was an incredible time for our business, and we were fortunate to see that excitement firsthand.
Like many industries, though, things have changed. There aren’t as many paranormal shows on television as there once were, the field has become much more saturated with new groups and events, and the current economy has made people more selective about where they spend their entertainment dollars. That means we’re constantly evaluating everything from ticket pricing to operating costs while still making sure every guest has an amazing experience.
Rather than seeing those challenges as setbacks, I view them as opportunities to adapt and grow. We’ve learned that success isn’t just about hosting paranormal investigations. It’s about creating experiences that people remember, building relationships with our guests, and continuing to evolve. That’s also why we’ve expanded through our YouTube podcast and continued looking for new ways to connect with the paranormal community.
If there’s one lesson this journey has taught me, it’s that passion alone isn’t enough to build a successful business. You have to be willing to adapt, work hard, and keep moving forward even when the road gets difficult. Those challenges have made us more resilient, and they continue to shape the future of Haunted Soulz Paranormal.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Here’s a heartfelt, magazine style response with no dashes:
At Haunted Soulz Paranormal, we host overnight paranormal investigations that give people the opportunity to experience some of the country’s most fascinating and historic locations for themselves. Our goal isn’t just to take people on a ghost hunt. It’s to teach them, inspire them, and give them the confidence to become investigators for the night.
When guests arrive, we introduce them to the history of the location, show them the areas that have produced the most compelling experiences over the years, and teach them how to properly use a variety of paranormal investigation equipment. Then we hand them the equipment, encourage them to explore, and let them create their own unforgettable experience. There is nothing more rewarding than watching someone go from being nervous or skeptical to completely immersed in the investigation.
What I am most proud of isn’t the places we’ve investigated or the number of events we’ve hosted. It’s the people. Seeing the smiles at the end of the night, hearing guests tell us they had an incredible experience, and watching them return event after event means more than I can put into words. Knowing that we’ve created memories people will never forget is the greatest reward.
I’m also incredibly proud of the community we’ve built. While my daughter Maddie and I lead Haunted Soulz Paranormal, there is no way we could do this alone. We are surrounded by an amazing group of volunteers and affiliate teams who generously donate their time, travel long distances, and work incredibly hard simply because they believe in what we’re doing. That kind of support is something I never take for granted, and it humbles me every single time.
Over the years, those volunteers have become much more than people who help at our events. They have become some of our closest friends and part of our extended family. We celebrate birthdays together, have cookouts, support one another through life’s challenges, and spend time together outside of the paranormal world. What started as a shared passion for the unexplained has turned into lifelong friendships that I will always treasure.
I think that’s what truly sets Haunted Soulz Paranormal apart. We don’t just create paranormal investigations. We create experiences, relationships, and a sense of community. People may come because they’re curious about the paranormal, but they come back because they feel like they’re part of something bigger. For me, that’s what this journey has always been about, and it’s what I’m most proud of.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When I first started in the paranormal field, there really weren’t many event companies or organizations doing what we do today. Because of that, I never had one single mentor I could look up to or follow. Looking back, I actually think that was a blessing because it taught me that you don’t have to learn from just one person. You can learn something valuable from everyone you meet.
Over the years, I’ve built friendships with investigators and paranormal teams from all over the country. Every group has its own way of investigating, communicating with guests, and approaching the paranormal. I’ve learned pieces from all of them, and those experiences have helped shape the way we run Haunted Soulz Paranormal today. My advice is to stay humble, keep an open mind, and never think you’ve learned everything. The moment you stop learning is the moment you stop growing.
Networking has also been a huge part of our journey. We started setting up booths at paranormal conventions, Paracons, and metaphysical fairs simply to introduce ourselves and let people know who we were. There really isn’t a traditional way to advertise paranormal investigations, so we’ve had to be creative. Social media has become one of our biggest tools. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and our podcast have allowed us to connect with people who share our passion and introduce new audiences to what we do.
We’re still a small family business, and there are many organizations and creators with much larger audiences than ours. But I’ve learned that success isn’t measured only by numbers. It’s measured by the relationships you build, the reputation you earn, and the impact you have on the people you meet. Every conversation, every event, and every connection has helped us grow, and we’re excited to continue building one relationship at a time.
