Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Sanders.
Hi Jillian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My cosmetology journey began in 2010, and I have loved every step of it. I was fortunate to start my career working alongside an incredibly talented, seasoned stylist who helped build the foundation of my skills and passion for the industry. From there, I joined a larger salon where I continued to learn, grow, and be inspired by experienced stylists around me.
In 2012, I took the exciting leap of purchasing that salon, Blades Hair Salon in Cuba, Missouri. Owning the salon gave me invaluable experience, and I proudly operated it until 2016. That year, I followed my vision of creating a more personal experience for my clients by opening my own studio, Beauty By Jillian.
Since then, I have continued to grow both behind the chair and in the bridal industry. While I have always loved doing weddings, opening my own salon allowed me to truly focus on expanding my bridal business. Today, I specialize in both bridal hair and makeup, traveling throughout the St. Louis area to help brides look and feel their absolute best on one of the most important days of their lives.
Although my salon is located in Cuba, Missouri, I spend many weekends traveling to my brides, while weekdays are filled with the cuts, colors, and everyday transformations I love creating for my salon clients. Having the opportunity to balance both worlds is incredibly rewarding, and I feel fortunate to play a small part in so many special moments.
Throughout my career, I have been honored to receive numerous industry recognitions, including winning Best of Weddings from The Knot seven times and earning The Knot Hall of Fame Award. These achievements are especially meaningful because they reflect the trust and support of the amazing clients who have allowed me to be part of their stories over the years.
After more than 16 years in the beauty industry, I remain passionate about continuing to learn, perfect my craft, and provide every client with an experience that leaves them feeling confident, beautiful, and truly cared for.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. While I have always loved every stylist I have worked with, I have also encountered some that have challenged me. Looking back on those experiences, I can only agree that they made me a better person and stylist.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a cosmetologist that is behind the chair during the week creating beautiful transformations and then I specialize in bridal hair and makeup on the weekends. I am proud to be such a trusted stylist for so many wonderful brides and bridal parties. I thoroughly enjoy my time with each client, and while I try to always remain professional, I also try to truly get to know each person in my chair and make it an entire, personalized experience that is also fun!
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
None specifically, but I am also seeking out education to help perfect my craft. You can never stop learning in the industry and I love it!
