Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon K Dougherty.
Hi Shannon K, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my artistic journey as a young child. I was always doing something creative such as painting, sewing, and using my hands to create anything that popped into my head.
After I finished college with an art degree, I wasn’t quite sure what to do next so I set painting aside mostly and picked up a camera wanting to learn everything I could.
Photography felt like a calling and I never looked back!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running a business is so fulfilling but of course not without many challenges. Naturally I am more of a creative and business and running a business didn’t come naturally to me at first. Taking the time to learn everything I could, and still constantly learning, has had ups and downs. Overall, I wouldn’t change all I’ve learned with starting and running a business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The work I create has so many inspirations from things I love and I get to express it in photography. I wouldn’t have just one thing I would categorize my work as. It’s a mix of portrait, boudoir, classic Hollywood glamour and fine art
The main thing I love getting to do is creating work that feels true to myself. Authenticity is so important.
I’m also so incredibly lucky that I get to create and work with so many amazing people!
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is seeing the movie How to Marry a Millionaire for the first time. Even as a child I was drawn to classic Hollywood and older movies. I think I rented this movie on vhs more than 10 times. I was so in awe of the actresses, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, and Lauren Bacall. I remember taking in all the details of their wardrobe, the colors of the film, and all of the glamour. Classic movies become something I loved growing up and still inspiring to this day.
