Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Stylez.
Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey started around 16 or 17. While my friends were going off to college, I stayed in St. Louis working because my family couldn’t afford tuition at the time. I was trying to figure out my next step, and although I had been doing hair since I was nine, I didn’t initially see it as my primary career path.
That changed when I visited Paul Mitchell. The high-end, fashion-forward environment completely shifted my perspective, and I realized I could merge my natural gift with my love for fashion and creativity.
After graduating, I spent three to four years as a shampoo assistant for my mentor to build my skill set and foundation. To achieve the diverse clientele I wanted—something that wasn’t always common in St. Louis—I strategically worked in two very different parts of the city: Ladue and North County.
Seven years ago, I established LS Glam in the Grove, creating the inclusive, multi-cultural space I had always envisioned. A few years later, after gaining experience on movie and commercial sets, I launched the LS Glam Agency to expand into production hair and makeup while mentoring and creating opportunities for other artists. Today, I continue to serve salon clients, run bridal and production services, and guide the next generation of beauty professionals.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge shaped the business and the leader I am today.
One of the first major hurdles was at the very beginning—feeling left behind when my peers went off to college while I stayed back to work and figure out my path. Turning my natural gift for hair into a full-time career wasn’t my original Plan A, and stepping into cosmetology school required a mindset shift.
Once I graduated, the path wasn’t an instant success story either. While others were jumping straight into high-end salons or celebrity work, I had to start from ground zero, spending three to four years as a shampoo assistant to build my skills and client base.
Navigating the local landscape was another challenge. St. Louis can be very segregated, so building the diverse, multicultural clientele I envisioned meant hustling between two completely different areas—Ladue and North County—simultaneously to bridge that gap.
Then, expanding into production and launching the LS Glam Agency came with its own steep learning curve. Breaking into movie sets and commercial work took years of slow progress and persistence before it finally gained momentum.
Looking back, none of it came easy, but pushing through those awkward, slow, and demanding seasons is exactly what allowed me to build a sustainable business, open LS Glam in the Grove, and ultimately create opportunities for other artists coming up behind me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At my core, I am a beauty professional, salon owner, and agency director. Through LS Glam and the LS Glam Agency, I specialize in full-service hair care including custom color, precision cuts, styling, extensions, silk presses, and chemical services as well as professional makeup for bridal, commercial, and film production.
What I am known for, and what truly sets me apart, is my commitment to creating an inclusive, diverse space. Early on, I recognized that the hair and beauty scene in St. Louis was often divided, so I intentionally built a skill set and a business model that caters to clients of all hair textures and backgrounds. Whether someone comes into LS Glam for a luxury salon experience or hires our agency team for a major production set, they get a high-end, versatile, and seamless experience.
What I am most proud of is the evolution into mentorship through the LS Glam Agency. Building my career from ground zero taught me how hard it can be to get your foot in the door. Being able to take what I’ve learned, guide up-and-coming artists, and create real, paid opportunities for them in fashion, film, and commercial work is by far the most rewarding part of my journey. I didn’t just build a salon I built a bridge for other creatives to step into their own success.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t about the numbers or a packed schedule it’s about impact, purpose, and legacy.
It’s taking a vision that lived in my heart, staying the course through every obstacle, and building a true melting pot where everyone who walks through our doors feels seen and celebrated.
Most of all, success is opening doors. Using the platform I built from the ground up to mentor other artists, put them on sets, and give them opportunities to shine that is my ultimate why. It’s knowing my gift isn’t just transforming hair, it’s transforming lives and building a bridge for the next generation.
