Today we’d like to introduce you to Cornesha Dunlap.
Hi Cornesha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in 2015 with my passion for doing hair. Beauty and cosmetology had always come naturally to me, but I was initially afraid to step outside of what I already knew. I decided to take a leap of faith, and my best friend became my very first lash client. After she began receiving so many compliments on her lashes, it gave me the confidence and motivation to step out and officially offer lash extensions as a service. From there, I continued offering lash services while doing hair, and my business gradually grew.
As my passion grew, I began hosting classes and events to share my craft with my community. Wanting to expand my knowledge and become licensed, I attended Crave Beauty and in 2021, earned my esthetician license. After working alongside my mom in her shop for several years, I’m now preparing for an exciting new chapter that I can’t wait to share with my current and future clients.
When I look back at how far I’ve come, I’m reminded that it all started because I was willing to step outside of my comfort zone and take a chance on myself. I’m excited to continue serving clients who are looking for an artist who genuinely cares about their experience and how they feel.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. When I started doing lashes in 2015, I quickly learned that building a successful business takes more than talent. It also takes patience, consistency, sacrifice, and the ability to believe in yourself when things don’t happen as quickly as you hoped.
Some of my biggest challenges have been building a consistent clientele, staying motivated during slower seasons, and balancing the many responsibilities that come with owning a business. I’ve also had to learn the business side of the beauty industry while continuing to invest in my education and improve my craft. Because the lash industry is always changing, I’ve had to stay open to learning new techniques and adapting to new trends and client needs.
There have been times when I needed to step back, regroup, and remind myself why I started. But every challenge taught me something and helped me become a stronger artist and entrepreneur. Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and how those experiences helped shape Pretty iLash Extensions into the brand it is today.
