Daily Inspiration: Meet Sara Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Taylor.

Hi Sara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I walked into Y6 Des Peres (now closed) at a pivotal moment in my life to “try” yoga. Truth be told, I did not think I could stay on the mat with an actively racing mind. Turns out, yoga spoke to me in a way that nothing else could. I took a job at the front desk for $8.50/hr as a wellness advisor. I went on to take my YTT elsewhere and when Y6 Creve Couer opened, I was selected as the GM to open that location. I successfully launched that studio and went on to work for several other companies outside of Y6. Yoga was a constant for me these past 10 years and I missed teaching so I answered a call to begin teaching at the Y6 St. Charles location and am now also the Sales Manager. YogaSix has been my yoga “home” since the day I arrived to the mat. It is something I go back to daily, whether on my mat physically or not. I teach about 6 classes a week at various studios and will be launching my first women’s yoga retreat this fall under my own brand. Yoga is intertwined into everything I do and all that I am and YogaSix will always hold a space in my heart as this is where my journey began!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The yoga side has been failry smooth but life is not always. I think that is why it is so important to return to the mat. To find that balance between life’s obstacles and what is thrown at us on the daily. The biggest struggle has been to find the sweet spot on how to capitalize on this yoga journey to do it full-time and make a steady living at doing what I absolutley love. I am finally working out those details after 10 years in the industry.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a 200 CYT certified yoga instructor with 25 hours of trauma informed yoga training. Being a women in long term recovery, I weave my practices into almost every yoga class I teach. I am known for my gentle style of invitational cueing and adding a bit of “woo woo” into my practices. I am most proud of my ability to connect to individuals on and off the mat in finding their WHY on choosing to step onto the yoga mat. I lead women’s workshops, gathering and retreats that help others find their authentic selves through movement and mindful practices. Johann Hari says “the opposite of addiction is connection” and I embody that statement in all my interactions. What sets me apart from others is my natural connection to anyone who walks into our studios.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe everything comes full circle and while many refer to me as “lucky”, I believe hard work, effort and connection drive relationships and businesses. I do find it quite “lucky” that when I answered the ad to begin teaching in studio again after many years away from Y6 that the ownership had changed and I was luckily much more aligjned to serve under this owner.
