Conversations with Jennifer Leigh Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Leigh Smith.

Hi Jennifer Leigh, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into holistic healing has really been a journey of learning to listen to my own body.
16 years ago I started my business offering Reiki and Tarot Reading at my metaphysical shop and Spiritual Wellness Center. 11 years ago I was becoming a massage therapist and planned to continue my shop with that, but the universe had other plans. Initially, I moved to focus on helping people feel better physically. Over the years, through my own experiences with injuries, chronic pain, recovery, and the many different approaches I explored in my own healing, I began to understand that the body is communicating with us all the time. Pain, tension, emotion, energy, breath, and movement are often connected in ways we don’t immediately recognize.
Curiosity led me deeper into Myofascial Release, Thai bodywork, breathwork, somatic practices, Feminine Embodiment Coaching and sound healing. Each modality gave me another piece of the puzzle, but the bigger realization was that healing isn’t about finding someone (or som

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh, no, there have been many twists, turns, and seasons where I had to completely rethink what I thought healing, success, and even strength were supposed to look like.
Some of my biggest challenges have come through my own body. I’ve spent years learning how to work with my body rather than constantly trying to push through it or fix it. That process taught me things that no textbook, course or counseling session discusson could have taught me about listening, pacing, boundaries, nervous system regulation, and the difference between forcing something and actually supporting the body.
There have also been challenges in building a business around work that is deeply personal. It’s one thing to know what you believe in and another to put it into words, price it, market it, and ask people to invest in it. I’ve had to grow tremendously in learning how to value my work without feeling like I have to overgive.
I think one of the biggest lessons has been realizing that my path doesn’t have to look conventional to be

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work centers on helping people reconnect with their own body and learn to trust the wisdom that’s already there.
I’m a licensed massage therapist, but over the years my work has expanded well beyond traditional massage. I blend therapeutic bodywork with Reiki and energy work, sound healing, breathwork, somatic practices, and feminine embodiment. Rather than separate modalities, I see them as different ways to blend supporting someone to become more aware of what’s happening within their body, nervous system, emotions, and energy.
One of the concepts I’m cultivating is “Body As Guide”. It’s the foundation behind much of my work: learning to notice the sensations, impulses, emotions, tension, resistance, and even the subtle shifts in the body, and becoming curious about what they’re communicating rather than immediately trying to override them.
What sets me apart is that I don’t need to have all the answers for someone else. I’m not interested in creating dependence on a practitioner. My goal is to help people develop a relationship with themselves that becomes more intuitive, embodied, and self-trusting.
I’m probably most proud of the space I’ve created for people to slow down and actually feel themselves. In a world that constantly asks us to perform, produce, push through, and disconnect from our own signals, I feel there’s something powerful about creating a space where someone can finally listen. Where they can arrive and feel safe at home within themselves. I ask them to carry THAT with them.
I’m also proud that my work has continued to evolve. I started with massage therapy, but I followed the questions my own healing journey kept asking me, and that led me into combining energy work, sound, breath, and somatic healing. Holistic Journey has become a reflection of that evolution.
Ultimately, I want clients or group session participants to leave thinking, “I can feel myself again. I can listen to myself. I can trust what my body is telling me.”
That’s the work I’m most passionate about.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are several ways people can connect with me and with Holistic Journey Healing Collective
For individual work, I offer personalized BodyCare and integrative sessions that may include massage, Reiki, sound, breathwork, and somatic practices. I also offer non-touch sessions, Body Wisdom Mentorship for people who want more guidance around learning to listen to and work with their own body.
I love working in smaller groups as well. I facilitate a new offering called Soma Support Circle, seasonally Self-Healers Collective for Year End – an integrative Sound Journey. These are intentionally small group spaces where people can explore without feeling like they have to perform or have everything figured out.
With being able to take time to recharge, I’m absolutely open to collaborating with other practitioners, wellness professionals, community organizations, and local spaces when it feels in alignment. I love bringing experiential offerings like sound, breathwork, somatic movement, and guided embodiment into s
