Community Highlights: Meet Taylor Re Lynn of Cultured Focus Magazine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Re Lynn.

Hi Taylor Re, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Taylor Re Lynn’s journey is rooted in both storytelling and lived global experience. With a background in film production, I’ve always been drawn to narratives that connect people across cultures. My time living in Dubai was a turning point as being immersed in such a richly diverse, multicultural environment made it impossible to ignore both the beauty of global representation and the gaps that still exist in mainstream media.

I began to notice a disconnect between what the world actually looks like and what is often reflected on magazine covers and in entertainment media. Despite the fact that the majority of the global population consists of people of color, representation remained disproportionately narrow and Eurocentric. That realization stayed with me and ultimately became the catalyst for creating Cultured Focus Magazine.

When I later moved back to New York, I saw an opportunity to further expand this vision in a city that thrives on diversity but still has room to grow in how stories are elevated and told. Cultured Focus was built as a platform to celebrate global arts, culture, and talent thereby bridging continents, perspectives, and creative voices. It’s not just about representation for the sake of visibility, but about intentional storytelling that reflects the richness of the world we live in.

Today, the magazine stands at the intersection of culture and creativity, shaped by my experiences abroad and grounded in a mission to amplify voices that deserve to be seen, heard, and recognized on a global scale.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has been incredibly rewarding, but it hasn’t been without its challenges. Building something that intentionally disrupts long-standing industry norms means you’re often pushing against systems that are deeply ingrained. From the beginning, one of the biggest obstacles was gaining recognition and credibility in a space that still tends to favor traditional, Eurocentric narratives. There’s a level of gatekeeping in media and publishing that can make it difficult for new, globally focused platforms to break through. However, Cultured Focus broke through.

Another challenge has been balancing authenticity with scalability. When your mission is rooted in representing diverse cultures with care and intention, it requires a deeper level of storytelling, research, and relationship-building. That takes time, and in an industry that often prioritizes speed and trends, staying true to that vision while continuing to grow has been a constant balancing act.

There have also been practical hurdles like securing funding, building the right team, and navigating the evolving digital landscape. Launching a magazine that spans global perspectives means coordinating across different time zones, cultures, creative expectations and managing event logistics. It’s complex, but it’s also what makes the work meaningful.

Ultimately, none of it has been a smooth road, but every challenge has reinforced why Cultured Focus exists in the first place. The obstacles are part of building something that is not only different, but necessary.

We’ve been impressed with Cultured Focus Magazine, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
a. Please tell us more about your business or organization.
Cultured Focus Magazine is a global arts and culture publication rooted in the idea that storytelling should reflect the true diversity of the world. Our team is made up of international journalists and creatives who bring a wide range of cultural perspectives to the forefront. We focus on elevating voices, talent, and narratives that are often overlooked, creating a platform where representation is not an afterthought, but the foundation.

b. What sets you apart from others?
What sets Cultured Focus apart is our intentionality. We’re not just showcasing diversity—we’re embedding it into every layer of how we operate, from our contributors to the stories we choose to tell. Because our team spans multiple countries and lived experiences, we’re able to approach storytelling with authenticity rather than assumption. We’re also not confined to one region or perspective; we exist at the intersection of global culture, which allows us to highlight connections between communities that are often treated as separate in traditional media. That global lens, combined with a strong editorial point of view, is what makes us distinct.

c. What are you most proud brand wise?
One of the things I’m most proud of is the Cultured Focus Awards. It’s more than an event—it’s a platform dedicated to recognizing and celebrating industry leaders, creatives, and changemakers who are shaping culture in meaningful ways. The awards embody everything the brand stands for: visibility, recognition, and global impact. Being able to create a space where talent from different backgrounds is honored on an international stage is incredibly fulfilling.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources that help you do your best in life (at work or otherwise)?

I’m inspired by resources that help me stay grounded, creative, and globally aware.
I love anything that feeds both the mind and the mission whether that’s a book on leadership and storytelling, a podcast that expands my perspective, or platforms that keep me connected to culture and ideas. One of the resources I’m especially proud of is Cultured Focus Network, which was created to uplift, inspire, and celebrate arts and culture from around the world. It’s not just a network, it’s a source of creative energy and a reminder of why representation matters.

On a personal level, I also value books and podcasts that encourage self-growth and deeper thinking, because they help me show up better in both life and work.
I’m drawn to content that feels intentional, insightful, and globally relevant — the kind of material that challenges me to keep evolving while staying true to my vision.
