Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Krueger.
Hi Alexis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The beginning of Krueger CPA began when I was a a teenager. I have wanted to become a CPA since high school, when I took an accounting elective class. That class sparked a passion that has only grown throughout my career.
What drew me to accounting was more than the numbers. I have always enjoyed problem solving, and I also have a strong desire to help others. Accounting let me combine both, using analytical skills to make a real difference for individuals and business owners. In college, my interests became more focused, and I discovered tax was where my passion truly belonged, especially working with small business owners. Owning a business is rewarding, but it also comes with complex financial and tax responsibilities that can feel overwhelming, particularly for someone starting out.
That passion is what led me to start my own practice. When I did, I did not have a marketing or advertising budget, so I got resourceful. I began posting on social media and writing blog posts to build visibility, and I noticed people were actively looking for CPAs and tax preparers on Nextdoor, so I started responding to posts and reaching out directly to individuals. From there, I expanded to LinkedIn and Facebook, sharing my blog content to reach a wider audience. Social media ended up being one of the most valuable tools for growing my business and connecting with clients, and once that foundation was in place, I shifted my focus to building up my presence on Google as well.
Through it all, what I have enjoyed most is helping business owners navigate that complexity and providing guidance they can understand and feel confident in. For new business owners especially, having someone they can turn to with questions, who can explain their options and help them make informed decisions, can make a significant difference.
For me, being a CPA is about much more than preparing tax returns or working with financial statements. It is about building relationships, solving problems, and helping clients feel more confident about their financial future. That is also why I make myself available to clients year round, not just during tax season, so they always have someone to turn to when questions come up. That combination of accounting, problem solving, and helping others is what first attracted me to the profession, and it continues to be what I love most about what I do today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been some challenges along the way, especially as the practice has grown. I always knew there was a strong demand for CPAs, but I don’t think I fully appreciated just how significant that demand would be until I opened my own practice, working out of my basement in those early days. Once the doors opened, the growth happened much faster than I anticipated, which has been both exciting and, at times, challenging.
One of the biggest lessons has been learning how to scale the business while continuing to provide the level of service my clients deserve. During tax season in particular, I had to move quickly to streamline and automate certain processes, improve efficiencies, and find better ways to manage the administrative side of the business. Building those systems while simultaneously serving a growing client base required a great deal of time, flexibility, and, admittedly, some very late nights. That growth is part of what made it possible for me to move into my own office space this August, a milestone I am incredibly proud of.
While there were certainly moments when it felt overwhelming, I am incredibly grateful for the growth. Having more clients trust me with their businesses and taxes is an exciting opportunity and a reminder of why I started the practice in the first place. The challenges have also taught me a great deal about running a business, not just as a CPA, but as an entrepreneur.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Krueger CPA, my approach goes beyond simply preparing and filing a tax return. While accurate and timely tax filing is important, I believe the greatest value comes from proactive tax planning and strategy. Tax planning should not be something that happens once a year, it should be an ongoing conversation that helps clients make informed decisions throughout the year. Every individual and business has a unique financial situation, so I take the time to understand the bigger picture and look for strategies that align with each client’s goals.
I specialize in more complex tax situations, including businesses, rental properties, and multi-state filing requirements. These situations often involve additional rules, reporting requirements, and planning considerations, and they can become particularly challenging as a business or investment portfolio grows. My goal is to help clients navigate that complexity while providing clear, practical guidance they can understand.
One of the things that sets Krueger CPA apart is my experience in both audit and tax. Having worked in both areas has given me a broader perspective on financial reporting and how accounting and tax intersect. I gained valuable insight into the relationship between book accounting and tax accounting. Because of that experience, I am able to quickly identify differences between book and tax reporting and understand how those differences can affect a client’s tax situation.
We do not offer independent, stand alone bookkeeping packages. Instead, we offer bookkeeping services as part of our broader tax focused packages. This allows us to connect the bookkeeping and tax functions rather than treating them as completely separate services.
Ultimately, my goal is to be more than the person who prepares your tax return once a year. I want to be a trusted advisor who understands your business, anticipates potential tax issues, identifies opportunities, and helps you make better financial decisions throughout the year.
At Krueger CPA, we don’t just look at where your finances are today, we look ahead to where you want to go and develop strategies to help you get there.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as having the opportunity to build a career around work that I am truly passionate about while still having the freedom to enjoy the people and experiences that matter most. To me, success is not measured solely by professional accomplishments or financial achievements. It is about creating a life that feels both meaningful and balanced.
I feel successful when I am able to do work that I enjoy, make a living doing it, and know that the work I do has a positive impact on others. At the same time, success means being present for my family and having the time to enjoy life outside of work.
Ultimately, I believe true success is finding that balance building a career you are passionate about, providing for yourself and your family, and still having the time and freedom to enjoy the life you have worked so hard to create.
