Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Owens.
Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Mindy & Megan – We are two retired educator sisters who were obsessed with all things true crime. We decided to take a leap of faith and start a true crime podcast focused on cases from Missouri, our home state. Our goal is to go beyond the crime itself—to recognize and honor the victims, examine the facts carefully, and explore the unanswered questions that remain. With our backgrounds in education, we approach each case with curiosity, respect, and a commitment to understanding the people and circumstances involved. We hope the podcast gives victims and their stories the attention they deserve while encouraging thoughtful discussion about cases that may still have unanswered questions.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, it has been a pretty smooth process during the last year. One challenge has been creating consistent and engaging content that listeners can interact with – either on social media, YouTube, Patreon, and more. We are always looking for more effective ways to promote and share our cases and content. Another normal growing pain is trying to consistently grow your listening audience. It comes in waves and can be unpredictable.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We’re two retired educators who never really lost our curiosity—or our love of a good mystery. After spending our careers asking questions, researching answers, and helping others learn, we found ourselves bringing those same skills to the world of true crime.
Our podcast focuses exclusively on Missouri cases, especially those where there are unanswered questions, overlooked details, or stories that deserve to be remembered. We dig into the facts, revisit timelines, look at different perspectives, and, most importantly, keep the victims at the center of the conversation.
What are we most proud of? Giving a voice to people whose stories might otherwise fade away. We want listeners to remember that behind every case number, headline, and investigation was a real person with a life, a family, and people who loved them.
What makes us different is that we’re not trying to be the loudest voices in true crime. We’re educators at heart. We approach each case with curiosity rather than assumptions, research rather than sensationalism, and empathy rather than judgment. We’re comfortable saying, “We don’t know”—and then asking, “What questions still need to be answered?”
For us, true crime isn’t just about solving a mystery. It’s about remembering the people at the heart of it and making sure their stories don’t disappear.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
