Inspiring Conversations with Trisha of Blessings are Miracles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trisha.

Hi Trisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Honestly I know it’s a common saying but, “I started from the bottom and now I am here!” I can relate to so many people because I have went through a lot of trauma in my life. I was homeless addicted to drugs, mainly fentanyl, that was my drug of choice but I used almost everything. I’m a high school drop out. I am a SURVIVOR of rape, sexual assault and domestic violence. I suffer from mental illness and have even been in psych wards. I lost custody of my oldest daughter when she was just three months old. I am a suicide SURVIVOR. I AM A SURVIVOR WITH A VOICE! I have been heroin and fentanyl free since November 4, 2017 and I am so grateful for God, my husband, and my children because without them I wouldn’t be who I am today. Even after sobriety I know first hand there are so many struggles we as human beings encounter. One being our parents becoming ill and not always being the person you know they’re. My dad got sick and an argument over a lightbulb…literally something as little as a lightbulb changed my life forever. My husband and I found ourselves living in a hotel room while I was nearing the end of my pregnancy with twins. My friend saw my post desperately looking for a place to call home and it just so happened her landlord had an open house that day on a new rental property. We jumped in the van and took off not knowing we were going to have keys to our new home that day! We literally had nothing and had to completely start over. I put an in need of post out in our local groups and when I say the community came through for us, thats exactly what they did! They furnished our entire home including everything we needed for the twins to come home and more. With that being said when the time arose that we were no longer in need of certain items my husband and I decided to start something great, a nonprofit public charity organization called Blessings are Miracles! Our motto is, “Passing Blessings not Judgment!” Everyone always says its a miracle, but think about it aren’t Miracles Blessings within themselves?

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like I mentioned before I have struggled with addiction and mental illness for the majority of my life. Because of this I have witnessed and been the victim of things I wish on no one. My now five year old twins graduated kindergarten this year and I am so proud to say they watched me at forty years old, exactly one week prior to their graduation, walk across the stage and receive my HISET with honors! I call myself a SURVIVOR of many things and I most definitely AM A SURVIVOR and I can reach and relate to a lot of people which in turn shows them they too can make it out! If I can SO CAN YOU and I will support you every step of the way even if that requires me to be the voice of others until they are strong enough to speak and inspire others on their own.

We’ve been impressed with Blessings are Miracles , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Blessings are Miracles isn’t just any organization, because we don’t focus on just one thing. We literally do it all! Collaboration and partnerships with other organizations is crucial to us and our community members in need. We work approximately a sixty mile radius in and around St. Louis City, Missouri. We do annual back to school events. We have free annual community barbecues. We make and deliver Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for families that otherwise wouldn’t have a holiday meal. We hand out Christmas toys and Easter baskets to our youth in need. We advocate against fentanyl and gun violence. We work closely with other organizations focused on foster care. We deliver everyday essentials to families in need that do not have any form of transportation. We also handout prepacked blessings bags to our unhoused community members. When I said, “We do it all. We literally do it all! Whatever the community is in need of at that time!” The best part of everything is the smiles! I’m not going to lie the appreciation and smiles for what most people don’t think twice about is so extremely crucial for those in need! If there is one thing I want everyone to know is that, “You are enough, you matter and the world is a better place with you in it!”

What’s next?
Our plans for the future is to expand from our home into a business location to where our community members are able to come get the items they’re in need of all in one stop. We are also searching for a delivery vehicle so that we are able to stock it with everyday essentials and help more than one family in need at a time while delivering and filling our local blessings boxes.
