Today we’d like to introduce you to Alaya Daniel.
Hi Alaya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Three years ago I was co-owning a middle eastern restaurant with my husband in Virginia Beach. We knew we didn’t want to be in the restaurant industry forever, so I took a leap and launched my virtual assisting business. After three months I landed my very first client and shortly after I landed two clients in the same week! I started out as a copywriter virtual assistant and quickly realized I wanted to special in email marketing. Taking the reigns on email marketing for small businesses is something I thoroughly enjoy! From the strategy, to the writing, to the visuals, and even getting it scheduled–my clients don’t touch a thing, except to let me know the email copy is approved. Since starting my business I’ve worked with startups, all the way to million dollar revenue businesses… and what I’ve noticed in all of them is that there is money to be made in the inbox.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t all been smooth. Since this is my first time running a service-based business (I was so accustomed to selling physical products), there was a learning curve and a mental shift. I was no longer selling something tangible, instead I was selling an outcome. Once I realized that what clients are looking for are results, everything clicked.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
While I’m not a big risk taker, I do understand that it’s necessary in order to yield results. Whether you’re risking financial resources or time and effort–the greater the risk, the greater the reward WHEN done strategically. Before I take an risks in my business, whether it’s investing in education or hiring a brand photographer, I weigh in on what the results of that risk could and should be. This means that risks are often investments.
