Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsey Sweeten.
Hi Chelsey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Our building was the first one room school in Cottleville, built-in 1875. We purchased the property and have restored it to the original look. This is a family business my Husband, Mom, dad and I.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Always struggles and ups and downs in business! We opened in October 2019 and in March, we closed for three months due to covid. During the three months, we took a. Chance and moved forward with an addition to our building and a wedding arbor and fireplace. It deff payed off to keep thinking ahead cause we were ready for weddings as soon as everything opened back up!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We own a private event venue for weddings, parties, really any event! However, when we don’t have private events going on, We came up with the idea of having a “pop up” bar. I am most proud of this! During Christmas, we kicked off our first one! We called it the Toasted Chestnut Christmas pop-up bar! We decorated had themed drinks in snowman mugs! It was a hit! Really brought some fun to our community. We have started a tradition of these types of themed events and it has been really fun!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Don’t be afraid to try new things. We had a business plan and tried some new things and it has been very successful!
