Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi Bitton.
Hi Jodi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story is complex and every bit of who I am. I have been through the highest of highs and lowest of lows in business. I think being transparent about the struggles in our journey is truly what shapes us. I have been an Aesthetician for 11 years and have evolved through many different variations of this industry. I have worked for others in other capacities and never imagined finding my job in esthetics. I previously worked in critical care. Eight years of taking care of patients in an ICU had shaped my dream to nurture and care for others. But it wasn’t until I gave my very first facial that I found the joy that I had been long searching for. I found my true calling.
Since being in the esthetic industry, I have adapted and learned many things. I have tried to expand. I have then scaled back. I have had big ideas. I have watched them all come crashing down. One thing never changed. My dream and ability to see the final stage of my success. Whenever it was, I just kept going until I found it. In my mind, I always saw the place, the space, and the people. I just didn’t know it would all come together until this year. The most unconventional time in history for someone to have a business breakthrough. Amidst every obstacle personally and professionally, I settled into perfection. This year I found my dream location and have watched my dreams become the most elaborate of realities. I couldn’t be more happy to be where I am. Both in mind, spirit, and geographic. I truly believe life is about timing. My timing has never been better.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have always wanted more. Any entrepreneur should want to evolve and change. Growth isn’t always positive. Growing into new things with other people involved can come crashing down in ways you never imagined. People aren’t ever going to understand passion and purpose for the very causes you represent when they aren’t in it for the right reasons. If you try to scale without the right crew in tow, it becomes more than a bumpy ride. Growth in size doesn’t mean any more success. It often means more responsibility to be someone you’re not. Focusing on your gifts and not the back end of things that don’t bring you joy will destroy you in this artistic arena.
I wear many hats. I do a lot to keep the dream I have afloat. But I would much rather work hard living my dream then hand it to someone else with half the drive, purpose, and passion. Working with others in this industry is tough. What you surround yourself with is a reflection of every image you portray. Who you allow on your journey is a reflection of you. What you allow is a reflection of you. Every bad situation I have encountered has led me to a deep appreciation for those struggles. If I wouldn’t have been put through horrible things led by horrible people, I would never be where I am today. You can either let the bad things define you or define your own future by the newfound appreciation and gratitude you have for your struggles. I practice this every day. I am thankful every day for all the things that went wrong. For they are the very same reason, I am STRONG!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Healing hamsa is focused on the unique and authentic beauty that lives within us. Not an environment of feeling the need to filter or be someone you’re not. Beauty is skewed for many. Here I represent an image of what I want the world to see and feel is beautiful. All races, all faces. I work very hard to normalize minority and ethnic representation and educate my audience with ways to feel empowered. I advocate for the very things necessary to feel good and look good. They are interchangeable. Look good to feel good. Feel good to look good.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
The biggest risk you’ll ever take is the one you don’t take. I am a major risk taker. I am also a person that finds whatever means possible to justify those risks. Not the type to wear the parachute either. Typically just a nose dive in to any challenge relying on faith and of course other people’s words. That is where things always go wrong. Other people’s words shouldn’t dictate a single decision you make. I have made decisions in business that went horribly wrong. The aftermath of those decisions were devastating. I know risks often come with reward, but often times we forget about how much the reward can influence our overall happiness. Money, notoriety, and image aren’t what paint a picture of success. At least not for me. I live and breath the real fruits of my labor. It is living and breathing your mission every single day. It is being ok with who you are when you look in the mirror every day. Being proud of her. Liking her. Loving her. It is knowing that you did the very best you could with all that you are given. It is teaching your children the same. If you are unable to do that then you need to reprioritize. If it means leaving behind everything that you imagined to be happy, do it. Your mental health and stability is more important than any amount of money or perceived fame. Health is wealth and if you’re ever jeopardizing yourself to make someone else happy then it isn’t ever going to work. Your happiness is the most important. It is a domino effect. Take the risk, but analyze each step of your journey before taking off your life vest. If you’re afraid of the sharks, might not be time for swim.
