Life & Work with Jennifer Lynch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lynch.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After graduating college in 2010, I immediately enrolled in an esthetics program to become a Licensed Esthetician, but I knew my ultimate dream was becoming a full-time makeup artist. In 2011, I was working at Ulta, I was an Administrative Assistant, and also coaching a high school dance team. All while trying to build my client base. I got extremely lucky as my sorority sisters and other college friends started getting married at about the same time and booked with Flawless for their big days. Word of mouth and referrals were huge, and it was that moment that I knew bridal artistry was my passion and what I was meant to do. In 2013, I quit all of my jobs, turned down an Account Executive position with Too Faced Cosmetics, and focused on my own business, Flawless Makeup + Hair.

After making the commitment to myself, my customers and my business, I went full force. I invested in continuing education courses for myself as an artist, as well as taking business courses specifically for the industry. I love all aspects of the artistry world, but bridal has become my passion.

I now have an amazing bridal business manager, Emily, and a fully booked calendar of brides and I am so honored to be a part of their happily ever after.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest struggles in the makeup artistry world is setting yourself apart from the rest. Two things that help with that are to have a strong online presence and clear communication skills when working with your clients. You are building a business from the ground up, piece by piece. When first starting, most artists are their own CPA, bookkeeper, website designer, and administrative assistant not to mention the actual artist. In order to not only keep up but to grow, you have to continuously be learning. I take every struggle as a learning opportunity to grow as an artist and human, so I try not to think about them for too long and just keep moving forward!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
