Life & Work with Langford Cunningham | I had to lose my sight to find my vision

Today we’d like to introduce you to Langford Cunningham.

Hi Langford, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I had to lose my sight to find my vision. I was taking life for granted, I was an alcoholic, I was partying every night, I wasn’t appreciative of the small things life has to offer. I took it for granted. God had to sit me down and told me not to seek the world but seek him to give me the world. And being selfish to myself and my health, glaucoma runs in my family, and not going for checkups on my health cost me my sight. By the time I did it was too late.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
After losing your sight I went into denial and suicide attempts. I didn’t want to live no more. I couldn’t see those cars I bought or house. I tried to kill myself 3 times in one day because I couldn’t adore the materialism. I live for the money, strippers, and fancy clothes. Clothes examples Polo and Gucci. I tried hanging myself from the bathroom shower, I was unsuccessful, I put a gun in my mouth and made sure it was loaded with bullets. I pulled the trigger 3 times. The gun jammed. I threw the gun against the wall because I was upset and it went off. I was furious, cursing God. My last attempt to commit suicide. I called a friend to bring me out some pills so I could swallow and die. On his way en-route, I waited for almost an hour. I placed a call to him. A State Trooper answered the phone and replied “are you waiting for someone” I couldn’t believe it. I replied “who is this?” and the trooper says “We have your friend in handcuffs for having drug paraphernalia in his possession”. I dropped the phone, fell to the floor, and started crying. I heard a voice tell me you have two options you can walk the other way and I will take my hands off you and I can’t promise what may happen to you. Or you can walk towards me and find what your next journey in life will be. Blind City the Podcast was created.
