Daily Inspiration: Meet Jay Borders

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Borders.

Hi Jay, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Photography started for me like it does for many others without them realizing it, someone asking me to take a picture for them then raving about how good my angles were and how much they loved it. Most people don’t take it beyond that but, for me, it was love at first shot. I’d always been interested from my days in high school doing the morning news at CBC, to college working at the radio station and taking courses, photography was always present I just wasn’t intentional.

Three years ago, while living in Auburn, Alabama, and Atlanta I was given the opportunity to pick up a real camera. From there I decided to move back home and start over. My uncle gave me my first real camera, and I’ll forever be grateful to him. What followed was growth, passion, perseverance, failure, and eventually, consistency. I’ve been blessed to work with some of the biggest brands and stars. DaBaby, Mya, McDonald’s, ProForm, and many others just to name a few. I’ve also been blessed to capture beautiful wedding moments, family laughter, the joy of a new addition to the family, and other precious moments typically reserved for private family gatherings. I’ve loved every moment of it and will be forever grateful to everyone, there are so many who’ve helped me along the way I don’t know where begin, who encouraged me, criticized me, taught me, and most of all BOOKED me. I’m really excited for what’s next and I think my audience will be as well.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
All journeys have their struggles, but I would be nothing without my failures. I’ve had to start over after having all my equipment stolen, I’ve lost clients, friends, and had many other obstacles placed in my way. I’ve overcome and grown from them all thus far, and I’ve learned that you can never fail if you don’t give up.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in portrait photography. Capturing the essence of a person in a single moment in time never to be seen again quite the same sets my soul ablaze. I started out doing event photography and still include that in my list of services as well as: family photography, artist shoots, product shoots, model comp cards, and wedding photography. I also have videography services as well.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My clients and my artistry matter most to me. My clients because they push me to be better, to grow, to challenge limits of my capabilities. They dare me to push the limits of my artistry. They are both my benefactors and my greatest achievements. A creative without others to create for is like an artist with no gallery. Might as well be a kid with a coloring book. Love my clients and only want to continue to capture their greatest memories, moments, and achievements. Memorializing both them and myself.
