Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Hawkins.
Hi Alyssa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After graduating from Lindenwood University and thrusted into the workforce during a pandemic I was training to be a stockbroker when I decided to start my own business. Prior to graduating, I was working as a barista at everyone’s favorite coffee shops. The pandemic shed a new light on getting coffee, and other simple pleasures we use to enjoy without a line, 30-minute wait, and health risks.
People in the Midwest pay premium prices for half of the quality of coffee! I, Alyssa Love created Love Bean Coffee LLC. Where my slogan is “Create the third place.” encouraging people to take control of their lives and any circumstance they are in by creating moments of peace, resolution, or clarity within themselves.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The coffee market surprisingly has a low-cost entry, and if the coffee is good, it sells itself, but if there is anything hard about running a coffee business beside getting people to drink it black. It’s getting people at the table. 85% of America drinks coffee, but not all of those people are potential partners in my company. getting a group of people to take time from their busy schedule to have a moment with me to try coffee. Love Bean Coffee’s mission is to eliminate this obstacle for not just my business but for people’s everyday lives.
Helping people slow down, reflect, conversate over a cup of coffee. Love Bean uses coffee as a vehicle to bring people together that would otherwise be connected.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Love Bean Coffee offers coffee with no chemicals or pesticides in the growing of the beans; as well as, providing the Midwest the luxury of fresh roasted coffee. Most Coffee in the Midwest is 4- 6 months old after being imported into the country from the coast and sent by the pounds state by state. Giving a fresh roasted coffee gives it a hydrating and fresh taste that won’t be bitter afterwards.
Love Bean is mostly known for our dark roast blend! During the Spring and Summer seasons, I hand make cold brew and liquid cane sugar from scratch making dark roast coffee taste like candy. Love Bean also provides other handmade headwear and baby product for gift bundles and casual wear during the winter and holiday seasons.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
The most important part of business is not re-inventing the wheel, but learning how to perfect it. Enjoy the learning journey of running your business. Find people who are where you want to be and reach out to them to have coffee or ask them a few questions. If you can’t meet people maybe find a podcast or business blogs. Becoming a learner will help you apply what you’re learning to your business. Don’t be shy, put yourself out there! Running your own business IS risky business. So, take a risk, meet new people!
