Hidden Gems: Meet Frost Money

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frost Money.

Hello Frost Money, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I always had a passion for music during my childhood my heroes were people like Michael Jackson and MC Hammer and countless others. During the majority of my childhood, my uncle worked at best buy and use to bring me different CDs home every week. Back in 1999, Puff daddy had an album titled forever that came with a VHS tape I use to watch over and over. I remember my grandmother telling me she can see me being a mogul like Puff Daddy one day lol.

During my adult life, I and a former high school rival turned best friend Juan began recording music together and eventually started performing in a lot of open mics and showcases throughout the city. Eventually, we decided to start throwing our own events which were kind of unheard of at the time amongst our peers. We had some good ones and we had some bad ones. Eventually, I ended linking up with Charlie Hustle (rest in peace) and he took me under his wing and showed me a different side of promoting.

He had me do various tasks like setting up the club, booking acts, doing street promo walking up to strangers, and convincing them to come to the party we were promoting at. After the birth of my first child, I took a break from music because it was a challenge juggling parenthood and a music career at the same time. I stayed active by picking up hosting gigs for LT Johnson and other friends of mine in the business. Eventually, I made another run to do music but this time with me being in more control.

All the early years, I was a good soldier and kind of a sidekick for the people I worked with. With me making the choices, I was able to really up the volume for local shows in St Louis. Which lead to Justin Little of the Black-market media group reaching out to me about doing my concerts at Pops nightclub. That was back at the end of 2017. Since then, Pops has been my home venue and it’s like being a part of a family. We had a lot of great moments together and I’m super grateful to be a part of the team here.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Promoters do catch a lot of heat for one reason or another. It’s a lot of politics to it and it can be challenging at times. Also dealing with people on a level like this comes with obstacles.

You can try as hard as you can but you truly cannot please everyone. I’m slowly accepting that part. Doing shows during the pandemic was extremely challenging. My home venue was closed. So, I explored with different bars and each night was a challenge in one way or another.

From being shut down for a year and a half to trying to make something work was tough and hard on me and a lot of my peers.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Frost Money presents is my promotion company. It’s me and about a dozen people helping me with different events. We’re known for working at a high volume averaging 3-7 events a month. We do work on national shows but our primary focus is local shows.

We of the community so we often work with artists in the community. I’m proud to say almost no matter what level you are on in your career I have a stage for you to do your thing. I’m really hands-on with our events and I try to be flexible to the artist’s needs.

Some artist just needs me to open the door for them others need me to educate and motivate them. I’m happy to do whatever it takes to bring that artist’s vision together and create magic.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My fiancé and my 4 children work some pretty random hours. I appreciate the love and support they give me. Juan Valedespino for working with me throughout all these years. If we didn’t take that leap together I. In the early stages I know I wouldn’t be in this position now.

Charlie Hustle for taking me under his wing and teaching me so many things. I view him at the MJ to My Kobe. The similarities are not a coincidence. He definitely was a major influence. Justin Little for being a mentor and linking me up with Pops concert venue. Showing me the promoter life on a larger scale than I was accustomed to.

Lt. Johnson for having me host his shows when I didn’t have anything of my own going on. I built relationships and learned to work in high-pressure situations while hosting his events. Bob Fancher during the Fubar era I learned a lot. Without Bob being open to working with new promoters during Fubars early years I wouldn’t have been able to gain all the experiences I needed to grow.

Rich Donald and The Pops and Oz staff. It’s a pleasure to be a part of this and I’m having so much fun. I sincerely thank you guys for being so awesome in supporting me. Most importantly, thank you to my grandmother for seeing this and manifesting this for me.

Everyone is involved with Frost Money presents and my street team. I’m proud to have a strong cast around me to help out.
