Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie & Ryan Campbell.
Hi Katie & Ryan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Ryan and I started dating in 2013 and instantly bonded over our love of real estate and renovations. Neither of us planned to be in the workspace we are today; I was a full-time Middle School History teacher and Ryan was a maintenance supervisor downtown. After we got married, we spent our honeymoon phase working day in and day out on renovating our own south city house. After we got settled in our house, we realize how unsettled we actually were in our careers. We both dabbled in real estate, buying more properties around the St. Louis area. Finally, we jumped into the deep end together, said goodbye to our typical 9-5 jobs, and continued buying properties together. I left my teaching career, obtained my real estate license, and joined the Lou Realty Group Brokerage while Ryan continued to build our real estate portfolio and construction company. We learned so much along the way that we can elaborate on when we talk further.
Ryan and I now manage 15 employees and run operations and sales in the same office off Watson Road. In 5 years, we have welcomed 4 beautiful daughters into this world and served numerous clients to help make a house their home. We now have a full house ourselves, but still live, sleep and breathe all things house & home.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Oh boy, have there been challenges. We wake up every morning and never know what the day is going to bring. While this is both terrifying and exciting, we look forward to tackling any obstacles that come our way. Given our background, we used to go to work trying to meet the expectations of our bosses but now we are working towards the satisfaction of our clients.
At first, clearly defining our vision and processes was a big hurdle. We now pride ourselves on our robust processes. Getting started also meant finding employees to match our energy. Luckily, we have found so many motivated and like-minded employees who trust us to deliver a paycheck to them without fault. On a personal level, relinquishing control was scary to think about. We were growing so rapidly and having to hire more employees. We had worked so hard to build this company and had to give trust to someone else. But following our instinct has paid off tenfold in terms of hiring great employees.
We have big big big plans and our visions are fist fighting with today’s climate. The biggest obstacle we are encountering along the way are growing pains. Especially with supply chain issues and inflation, our brains have been thinking faster than our hands can work.
We are a very forward-thinking company and reflect on the challenges to learn. We try not to get bogged down by what we have already overcome. We write a new process and move forward with our company.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Campbell House and Home?
You should know that we are a family-owned, local company that does real estate and renovations. We specialize in helping clients purchase or sell a home, do major project renovations to turn clients’ current house into a home, and help investors find property. We also helping renters find a place to lease!
We are known for “Making a House Your Home”. That’s our motto and that is the legacy we wish to build.
We are set apart from others because of our amazing customers and great customer service.
We are so very proud of our commitment to STL and our connection to small local companies.
We want your readers to know that we are very prideful of St. Louis and we are dedicated to providing a full-service real estate and renovation experience. We are trying to ensure these old St. Louis neighborhoods can sustain the families of today and those of generations to come.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First and foremost, we could not have done this without our family. Both sides of our families have been big supporters, from watching our kids during late work meetings to providing investments towards our first properties.
We also would like to credit our employees – they trust us and grin and bear the growing pains. They have created and sustained a culture that makes the office a happy and productive place to come to.
Finally, we would not be anywhere without our clients who gave us a chance from the very beginning. They welcome us into their beloved homes during renovations and entrust us to buy or sell their houses.
