Today we’d like to introduce you to Emina Muratovic.
Hi Emina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My passion for content creation started in the summer of 2019 when I created a YouTube video for an organization I volunteer at every summer called The Pyramid of the Sun Foundation. After spending the entire summer creating content, I decided to come into college and change my major from Investigative Medical Sciences to Marketing.
Growing up, I always felt like I needed to do something big like becoming a doctor or lawyer, however, I never realized how much I could do from something I already enjoyed doing as a hobby. Throughout my college career, I pursued a dual degree in Marketing and Sports Business, and I used my passion in other aspects as well. I got involved with the Saint Louis University hockey team and took their game day photos, created their merch, and designed their jerseys.
I also became a content creator for the marketing department at Saint Louis University. During my last year at college, I got an internship working as a social media and marketing intern. While I was juggling all of these things and school, I also pursued a social media career myself. My passion for creating YouTube videos started during my senior year of high school. I remember passing people in the halls and being told by people they saw my videos in almost a sarcastic, snarky manner.
Telling people you were a YouTuber was always a punch line of a joke. I had a lot of breaks considering I was not a full-time content creator, however, I was able to learn how to make an income off of TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Moreover, I realized that there isn’t always power in numbers, but power in how well you portray your craft. You don’t need a million followers to make a difference.
In fact, I only collectively have about 17k followers across my social media. As a micro-influencer, I have found a way to love what I do, love the content I create, and make money off of it. I’m proud of how far I have come, and I realize why some people make this a full-time career- and how they are able to as well!
It takes a lot of commitment to stay consistent, but I’m proud to say I have worked with big brands and honed in a bit more on my craft since the beginning of my career.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a content creator has so many rough patches. First, telling people you make money off of social media can be quite difficult. Some people take it comically, some people think you sell yourself online, etc. When I started off as a YouTuber, people often laughed at me or gave me a little side-eye.
Figuring out how to manage my time and do everything on my own has also been a struggle. I am a full-time college student, and I juggle 7 jobs including content creating. Sometimes it feels like there aren’t enough hours in a day and like I have bitten off more than I could chew.
Having to manage all of my brand deals, think of what content I would like to post, think about how I want to get the shots, get the shots, edit the shots, and finally post the shots can take a lot longer than someone my expects.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a content creator for YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. I mainly specialize in lifestyle, fitness, and fashion, and that is the type of content I am known for.
I am most proud of being able to manage everything and land large brand deals with well-known brands such as Zaful and CupShe. The thing that sets me apart from others is that I started from scratch; I had an iPhone and the most basic software for editing.
It took a long time to learn my style, learn how to use better software, and learn how to manage brand deals and talk to managers and negotiate prices. Most importantly, being in school helped me learn a lot of these things!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I really like the nightlife in our city, but I do not like the weather. It’s snowing one day and 90 degrees the next!
