Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Lea.
Hi Leah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The inspiration to write poetry began as a little girl. In a childhood full of changes, though still surrounded by love, I found that writing was always soothing to my soul and it would just flow out of me. Though I was not raised in the church, I believed in God, yet did not have an understanding of His great and constant love. This was something I learned much later. Though back then, and of course now, yet with a deeper understanding through my own personal experience, I just really wanted to love people and bring light to all.
The vision of Lyrics from Leah came to me as a child as well. At the time, I thought of it as creating short inspirational books in various and never-ending collections. As long as I could write and create then Lyrics from Leah could keep going for all my days and hopefully live on beyond even then. The thought behind it was that everyone needs to know that they are loved throughout their journey and that God’s love is unconditional. As I grew up, this became like a calling to me as there are so many people in the world who are hurting, and to not share the knowledge of His great love for them felt like I wasn’t doing my part in this life.
I am a graduate from the University of Southern California with a degree in Communications. However, during that time, all I wanted to do after graduation was go sing. While in school, I went to work for Motown records as an intern in both promotions and marketing which was a great learning experience. Later, I went on to do some recording in Nashville which was another season of growth.
However, patience was not a strength of mine, of which my grandmother reminded me before her passing many years ago. I think God must have heard her prayers because the next thing I knew I fell in love with a blue-eyed Texan who was a man of God. Funny, because when you are married to someone with this kind of calling you have no choice but to be patient as life is not led by the things of the natural, yet instead by the Holy Spirit within which was completely new to me. I believe the Lord was determined for me to learn this important matter in life. We were then blessed to have a beautiful son together.
Throughout our marriage, we went from one place to another serving in ministry, of which I began to call these adventures, God assignments. I believe we moved 17 times in 23 years of marriage and endured many life challenges along the way. Today we stand stronger together than ever… You can’t lose if you don’t quit! For it was through the valleys deep wells were dug. Due to the embracing of my journey, I am able to bring Lyrics from Leah to life, and in a manner that comes from the depth of my heart to you. Even though it took me until these past couple of years to begin, I know that was because the Lord was continually molding me to become all He visions for my life. I will say that looking back, God never left me, and instead, He continued to love all the way through while working all things together for good… Thankful!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say that one of the biggest obstacles was myself. Though this was a vision I had carried for many years, gaining the confidence to step out, and put it into motion was the most difficult part. The thoughts and questions that went through my head were, “How could this really be?”, “Is it just me who thinks there is something to it?”, “What if it is and it doesn’t touch peoples’ hearts the way I hope it to?” Oh, there were so many more questions and roadblocks I created for myself; yet, in looking back, I do not see this as wasted time. I view it now as God was creating through my strengths, and more so through my weaknesses, the depth and steadiness needed to be more ready in every way to stand strong in the vision He gave me as a child. The bottom line though was that I just had to say, “Yes Lord”, trust Him , and then get out of my own way!
I am growing each day with it all and learning as I go along. Lyrics from Leah comes from a place that is real within. I like to say it this way… From my heart to yours. Therefore, as this vision comes to life, I am believing for those to be moved by the lyrics and overall message which is for each person to know that God loves them right where they are, no matter what, throughout their life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a creative, my writing is that of simplistic, short, and inspirational poetry that comes straight from my heart. It is set to music and video so that people can tap in to experience a quick moment of peace in a world that is moving so fast and can also be filled with an abundance of chaos. The average lyric is less than 30 seconds.
When people subscribe to my website, LyricsfromLeah.com, they will receive a fresh new lyric for the week in their inbox with a special commentary to go along with it. You can also follow along through the various social media platforms; however, by going to the website you will be able to further experience Lyrics from Leah. Recently, I began doing a short segment called “You Are Loved”. I was never one who desired to be in front of the camera. Though I have learned that as the vision grows, so must I.
To be rather blunt, the company that helps with my social media said to me, “Leah, your viewers know what you sound like and now they want to know you”. Ok, this was when I had to take a deep breath and leap to the next step of building my brand. I’m smiling as I say this because you are seeing me in the early stages of it all; however, I am believing that together we will be able to watch this vision come to life in full. There are so many parts to it; yet, I like to build layer by layer.
Since saying yes to speaking on camera, more opportunities to do so have come forth and your prayers are greatly appreciated! I guess God knows how much we can handle, and when the student is ready, the Master appears. The next layer to add will be creating the books I originally dreamed of doing as a child.
When it comes to what I am most proud of, aside from my family, is that I found a creative way to use my gift of poetry to reach others, and let them know that they are truly loved in this life… What an honor!
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I was blessed to have many amazing childhood memories even though my parents divorced when I was seven years old. What helped to create them was the fact that the love and respect for each other remained alive. Though I have wonderful memories with both of my parents and was blessed to go on some really great vacations, I would say that one of my favorite memories was as a little girl going to be outside of Knott’s Berry Farm to just feed the ducks and having a simple dinner with my mom and grandma. It was the simplicity of doing something that was of three generations coming together to just enjoy each other’s company. Things don’t have to cost a lot of money to enjoy. Just the willingness to set aside the time to create memories because at the end of the day, aside from God Himself, that is what matters most!
