Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Gladney.
Hi Kayla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
This is my story. At the age of thirteen, I embarked on my makeup journey to cope with my day to day life. In my sophomore year of high school, I had my very first client. I kept going and kept believing in myself. After I graduated high school, my passion for beauty sparked like fire and I decided to go to Regency cosmetology school but unfortunately, the school went bankrupted and shut the doors on their students. I was out of school for a whole year. In 2017, I applied to Paul Mitchell and got accepted but my passion wasn’t for hair. I applied and got accepted to Crave Beauty Academy where I studied for 6 months to become an Esthetician. In 2018, I graduated from Crave Beauty Academy with a body contouring certification and passed my state board examine on the first try. The Kayla Affect LLC became official in June of 2019. In 2020, my clientele picked up, and ever since I am continuously becoming booked and busy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road for me does not show any mercy. I’ve been bullied from elementary until my senior year of high school. When Coronavirus hit in 2020, I was okay when we were all locked down plus, I was more focused. In 2021, my Aunt Robin and my Uncle Brandon passed away unexpectedly and it took toll on me mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. It is going to take a while for me to heal but I’ll be alright because it is all part of God’s will.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in Makeup; facials and I am a body contourist. What sets me apart from others is my personality, professionalism, and creativity.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was when my uncle Brandon and my mother came together and threw me a 5th birthday bash that consisted of a pony, a clown, carnival games, and amazing food. Another favorite memory was when my big sister Tera took me to the skating rink called ” Saints ” when she was in high school.
