Hi Casey Hermann & Taylor Smith; it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your Story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Taylor’s Story: Hi there, My name is Taylor. I am a mother, wife, and business owner. I was a nanny for the last 8 years up until March of 2020 and became a stay-at-home mom when we had our son in April 2020. We have an Evolve Auto Boutique family business that specializes in auto cosmetics and printed vinyl work. I am the one that has been operating our printers for the last three years. I stumbled across the wallpaper that we put in our son’s nursery, and after spending a year at home with our son and helping out with our business here, and there I was ready to make a move to expand and create wallpaper.
Casey’s Story: I am a wife and mother, and we have a 2-year-old little girl. We love exploring the outdoors and going on adventures. Professionally I spent almost 12 years in the liquor industry, where I worked for a Beverage Distributor. I enjoyed my time in the industry, where I met a lot of great people and learned even more, but Taylor had the idea and had been working on peel and stick wallpaper and needed a hand; I was eager to take on the opportunity to help out which involved into becoming business partners. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn new skills and use my creativity.
Together Story: Our husbands have been friends for many years, and then we became friends. We had our kids a week and a half apart from each other. When Taylor was starting up the wallpaper business, Casey was thinking about leaving her current job to start another career path. It was perfect timing because Taylor knew she would need some help with this. We have spent the last year learning, building, and growing our vinyl wallpaper and printing business. As we navigate being mothers and business owners together, we have had the opportunity to collaborate with local businesses such as Lotus Hair co. AN Skin and Beauty, and Arin Solange, where we have been able to bring wallpaper, logo decals, banners, etc. We can’t wait to keep growing and helping others create and customize their amazing personal space.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
We don’t think starting a business is ever a smooth road, especially while juggling family life; if there is, we may need to see that business plan We have hit some road bumps in the process, but we always try to look at them as learning experiences. We have learned a lot in the past year. We have done a lot of research on the type of material we want to offer our clients. Once we found the perfect one, we had to do research and do a lot of trials on the different surfaces it could be placed. We offer wallpaper for smooth and textured surfaces (we provide a sample to be used for a week or two before we print to ensure we have the correct material for the client’s space).
We’ve been impressed with Our Local Wallpaper Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a print vinyl company specializing in custom peel and stick wallpaper. We try and use the best material that is easy to work with and can be customized to the style and size of our client’s projects. Being completely customizable allows us to bring the exact design someone is looking for and make it into wallpaper. The material is easy to apply and holds for years but can be removed with no mess or damage to the wall. Taking the size of the walls allows us also to give our clients the exact amount of wallpaper with as little waste as possible and at the best cost. We also offer many other print services, and we walk through the process step by step in the hope that we can bring the exact idea or image to a space and make it amazing.
Any big plans?
We have big plans for the future; growing and learning are top priorities. We hope to keep perfecting the customized wallpaper to ensure our clients get the exact design they want in the best material. We are also looking forward to partnering with a local designer to carry her line of wallpaper, and our next goal would be to expand by shipping more wallpaper out all over the United States.
