Today we’d like to introduce you to E Dub (Elijah Evans) .
Hi E Dub (Elijah Evans), we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story started back in 2018. I came home for summer break after my first year at North Carolina A&T State University and didn’t have much. I was working a part-time job but had a lot of free time on my hands. One summer night, one of my best friends and I decided we wanted to write a song. It didn’t seem far-fetched because we used to freestyle to different beats all the time. After writing this song, we decided that we wanted to record it and put it out. This marks the beginning of my musical career, with my first song being titled “Come Up,” ironically. Since that summer night in 2018, I have been through the many ups and downs of not only chasing a musical dream but chasing a dream in general. From the many hours spent recording, selecting songs, generating marketing ideas, and so much more to the dollars spent with what little budget I had, I have experienced every emotion that comes with chasing something you are passionate about. 5 years later, in 2022, I have released 7 total projects between albums and EPs (E Dub on all streaming platforms), with several singles in between. I have over 10+ videos on my YouTube channel (E Dub) and have totaled over 120,000 streams throughout my journey. As I continue to grow and evolve as an artist, I have expanded my horizons into rap/hip hop, R&B, dancehall, and pop music. Check me out when you have the chance.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think this journey has been everything but smooth! I recall countless days and nights when I was ready to give in and give up on myself and my dream. It’s hard to stay motivated with something when you pour so much in and sometimes don’t see anything poured out in return. From spending thousands of dollars on recording, mixing, and mastering to putting songs out and having them not received the way I anticipated, to spending thousands on music videos to receive only 100-200 views in a month, all these emotions, I have experienced. But I think the one thing that keeps me pushing is remembering why I do what I do. I make music because I love it. Not because of what monetary value it can bring me. Not because I want to be famous and see my name and face everywhere. I do it because it brings me joy, regardless of what metrics or milestones I may or may not be hitting. If you can keep your passion and why the top of mind, those two things alone will never let you quit what you have dreamed for yourself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a musical recording artist from Charlotte, NC. I have a mixture of music from Rap/Hip Hop to R&B, Pop, and even dancehall (E Dub on all streaming platforms). I just released my new album, Dub Szn 2, in late January 2022, and it has proven to be my most successful release to date. My hit song “Jiggin” has been played in clubs across various states and has been a great summer song. I am an aspiring artist trying to reach a bigger platform and connect with as many people as possible. I am most proud of my accomplishments in less than 5 years. 7 projects in, 10+ videos later, I can honestly say that I did not expect to be this far after recording my first song in 2018. I never grew up wanting to be a rapper, but it’s funny how life sometimes works, right? My versatility is what sets me apart from others. I feel like I can’t be boxed in musically. I am willing to try almost anything, but not only try it but also try it and do it well.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Stay consistent and be genuine. Consistency is the key to life. It doesn’t matter if you are a rapper, have a 9-5, are hitting the gym, trying a new diet, literally anything you put your mind toward, consistency will take you further than you’ve ever been. Being genuine and being yourself can never hurt you. Bringing your authentic self and experiences to the forefront builds trust with those around you and allows many more people to connect and relate to everything you put out in the world.
