Daily Inspiration: Meet Christian Garabedian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Garabedian.

Hi Christian, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Drawing, painting, and creating new things has always been something that I have enjoyed. From elementary to high school, I was involved in some form of art class, whether it was your standard drawing classes, graphic design, woodworking, or any other variation. Not until I had my first apartment to myself in 2020 did I start to pick up drawing and painting again. I wanted to create the STL city skyline for my living room, so I learned techniques (from YouTube mostly) on spray painting and painting on large canvases. After that, I showed some friends and family my work and some were interested in having some drawings/paintings commissioned for themselves, and from there it took off.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Like any career/hobby/journey you have, it’s never easy. From an early age, drawing and art in general aren’t exactly considered to be the “cool” things to do as a little kid. I always felt somewhat discouraged to really pursue art as anything more than just a hobby. Now, I have a full-time job and career outside of artwork so managing both and just life as it is can be pretty difficult sometimes. On top of that, you’re going to make mistakes when working on a new art project, so accepting that not everything will turn out perfect can be a hard thing to realize, but you have to accept that’s just how it is. But after each mistake, you’re learning what not to do and how to adapt in the meantime.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The artwork I create can be anything from pencil/pen drawings, acrylic/oil paintings, spray paintings to even graphic design and photoshop work as well. I would consider myself essentially the master of none, but jack of all trades, if you will? Since I don’t have one particular focus, I can’t say that one medium is more refined than the others. But I believe having that adaptability allows me to have a wide web of possibilities to further my career. It boils down to the fact that I like the aspect of new challenges and really working the creative side of your brain to make something completely new every time.

How do you think about luck?
During the height of COVID-19, while we were all quarantined, was when I had a ton of extra time work on all sorts of projects and create new art pieces. Without all of that downtime, I probably wouldn’t have been able to explore new art projects and create new things. Call it luck or a silver lining, because of all the terrible things COVID-19 caused, it at least gave me an opportunity to explore new avenues of creativity while being stuck at home.
