Today we’d like to introduce you to Jer’Maine Brown.
Hi Jer’Maine, can you introduce yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hey Y’all. First off thank you for the opportunity to be featured in your magazine. What an honor.
My name is Jer’Maine but is pronounced like Germany. Unique right, lol. I am a dreamer, just like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, and I want to heal the world as Michael Jackson sang about. I have been groomed by various people and organizations all my life to be the best me I could be. I was born and raised in the city of champions, EAST ST LOUIS, IL.
Becoming an adult isn’t easy when everyone around you is trying to make it. It’s especially challenging when you have children young. I had my first child at 19 yrs old and my second at 23. I planned kids but didn’t plan on the deep struggle of being responsible for lives. I lived in survival mode for years. I went through post-partum, losing my cars, being evicted, living in a new home every year for about 7 years, marrying and divorcing before age 30, and experiencing various loved ones dying. I didn’t know how much of a negative mental state I was in until I started the journey of intentionally mastering myself in 2017.
I moved to Texas with my 2 small children hoping to start fresh in life. I was very determined to make a living. I joined an MLM (multi-level marketing) business, worked in a children’s hospital as a certified pharmacy technician, and earned more income from the gig economy through Lyft. I would journal a lot about my life in texas however journaling isn’t new to me. I’ve been journaling since middle school, I’m currently 31.
One day, I was tasked to read the book “Think Grow Rich,” by Napoleon Hill. There was a powerful statement he asked us to commit to memory, our subconscious mind, and I wrote it down. I don’t remember it, but I wrote it down and read it over and over. This is one of the ways I would self-coach. I couldn’t afford a therapist nor a life coach so I has to help myself and that started with digging myself out of a deep hole of despair. Y’all I became addicted to personal development. It was all I listened to in my earbuds, in my car, and watched on youtube. I read so many self-help books, and until this day, I still indulge in personal development material daily. Probably hourly lol. I love learning.
Today, I am a Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner, Life Coach, Hypnotherapist, and TIME technique practitioner, and I have a few other certifications. As an NLP practitioner, I study the subconscious mind and how we use it to achieve the results we want in life consistently. My specialty is in mindset when it comes to personal development. In addition, I have created a coaching business, JERMiNATION Coaching LLC, to help guide women, men, and youth through life using a specific framework I started. I am currently working on launching my coaching program online so it may be available to the masses. I coach one-on-one, am a motivational speaker, and seek opportunities to teach the youth life skills such as emotional intelligence. I’m new in this profession, but I’m experienced with life. I’m a humanitarian at heart and want to be a positive resource for my community.
Please tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others.
I have a deep passion for making the world better because I’m connected through my ancestors. I feel like I’ve been preparing for this all my life. The most high picked me to do the work of the people and I will do it. I am set apart from others with my brand and unconditional love. I feel for humanity and what our history may say about us. There is a universal shift taking place & I have a role to play in its unfolding. I will continue the work our previous leaders started but with innovation. Change is slow, but change is constant, and in that energy, I am always inspired to stay in the flow of love, good change, and holistic wellness. That starts with you and me and how we handle our internal world. My brand, JERMiNATION, is a brand focused on the development of a growth mindset. Germination is the process by which an organism grows from a seed or spore after a period of dormancy. I love nature. My name is Jer’Maine (pronounced as Germany) Brown. So I did a little wordplay, implemented my love for nature, learning & community building and curated JERMiNATION. I breakdown the meaning of my brand name on Instagram, but I’ll give a brief breakdown here:
JERM=germs are good bacteria that penetrate an egg to begin germination. Humans are germs. My nickname is Jerm. lol
i=My personal drive to help people go from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset; I am motivated to inspire good change by helping people who get looked over in low-income communities conquer their challenges related to mindset. The “I” is lower case because I’m too humble lol.
NATION=nation building, community building; we go fast alone, but we go far together. Life is built on social connection, and we’ll experience a sense of united peace when we operate more interdependently. This will take a big shift in the mindset of our communities.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My mom, Shalonda. My dad, Jermaine. My stepmom, Asia. I am sooo lucky to have 3 parents. They sacrificed so much to ensure their children were cared for, loved, and supported. I want them to be proud of me. Not for my achievements but for who I am. I will never get to repay them for all their sacrifices but my plan is to show them that I understand. *tupac voice* I appreciate & love yall, forever and ever.
My sisters, Tra’Lexia, Le’Monjia, Isis, Imani, Amari and Kayona. My brothers, DeArius and Jeremiah. They are all forever a source of inspiration for me. I remember walking around the house preaching, acting like Dr. King. I gave my sister tray and maja a motivational speech. Of course they told me to shut up. Lol. I was planted seeds though so I kept going. I am the oldest of them all, so I have a big sister’s responsibility to show them they can always follow their dream no matter what happens in life or how old they get. Adults are allowed to dream and work towards achieving them.
The countless amount of School teachers who always dared me to dream BIG. I trusted their belief in me to be all that I could be. Here I am.
My amazinggggg man, Cozy. Man I love him tremendously. He is my biggest supporter. From mental to physical support. He keeps me on top of my game and he make sure I’m cared. We started from scratch together and today we are still building. I love our foundation of love and because of it, we have yet to break. I am forever grateful and will always love you Cozy for your sacrifices to see us win.
My life coach, Dr. Nicolya, is a big cheerleader for me. From motivation to accountability. She’s always rooting for me, and I appreciate her so much. She was a great investment in my personal development journey.
Pastor Chapman and Mother Chapman are community leaders who took me and my sisters under their wing and nurtured us. They had us volunteer to give back to our community. We did annual toy drives every year. They also allowed me to participate in church using my gifts. They always reminded us to be the best we could be and helped us execute our strengths to practice them within the church, our community, and the youth coming up under us. I’m forever grateful for their guidance and leadership.
My supportive friends. Y’all the truth. From being the first to share my post, buy my products, or be a shoulder to cry on. I love all of you deeply.
Strangers are dope too. They helped me realize there are amazing people who genuinely care and express simple human love. I appreciate all the random conversation and support from good people who happen to be strangers lol. Connection fuels me.
Thank you everyone from the bottom heart.
