Born and raised in the United Kingdom, Nabeel moved to St Charles, MO, in 2006 and pursued an academic education in Electrical Engineering, followed by a professional career in Software Engineering. Alberto was born and raised in Italy and moved here in 2011, pursuing an education in Computer Science. With their passion for everything technical, they brought their creative minds and technical backgrounds to develop interactive experiences within Deadlock Escape. This passion for software and hardware and past professional experiences in experiential marketing was the perfect combination to develop a business focused on customer interactions and tech-based experiences that helped set Deadlock Escape apart from its competition.
Escape rooms have been an upcoming trend in the United States, and the St Louis/St Charles area is not short of them. However, combining the technical backgrounds of Nabeel and Alberto, they created one-of-a-kind experiences that helped set their products apart. Deadlock Escape was founded in 2019 and officially opened its doors on June 25th, 2019. This has been shown by becoming one of the highest-rated escape rooms in the area.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The budget was a strong concern when starting, but this was handled by developing all props in-house to reduce costs. Within a year of officially opening, Covid hit, causing a brief shutdown of the business. This time was utilized as productively as possible by developing a new room and opening the 2nd location.

Deadlock Escape is one of the highest-rated escape rooms in the area. We feature fully custom escape rooms and have a total of seven rooms across three locations in Saint Charles, MO. What sets Deadlock Escape apart is that all props/game design/set design is done in-house, so you won’t find anything similar. My proudest achievement was opening three locations (the third being one of the largest) within three years.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Best: The food is great, the people are fantastic, and it has a small-town feel while maintaining a large presence.
Bad: The lack of quality public transportation.
