Meet Salina Schmidgall of Lotus Rising LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Salina Schmidgall.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I started my journey as a therapist standing behind a chair cutting hair as a cosmetologist. I noticed that clients would tell me what was going on in their lives, and I found myself wanting to help more, so I pursued a career in mental health counseling. While working on my master’s in counseling, I worked for nonprofits with addictions, low SES, high medical needs, and many different diagnoses. This helped strengthen my skills and gave me the confidence to go out independently. After completing my master’s, I started my private practice, working with individuals and couples. Along with therapy, I have created the Self Care Masterclass that profoundly delves into self-care. I have many more exciting things planned for the future of my business!

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The hardest part of owning your own business is making the rules for running your business (within the law). While on the one hand, this is freeing; when it came to the pandemic, it was scary. In 2020, I went wholly virtual, and this was a hard choice. Based on what little we knew about COVID, I had to decide what would keep my clients and me safe while trying to keep my business open. I lost quite a few clients, and eventually, some returned. It was a challenging time and allowed my business to grow virtually. A second challenge is the constant mental battle. I was not getting stuck in the comparison trap of what other people in my field were doing. Sticking to what is best for me rather than with the status quo can be challenging. Practicing patience with myself and giving myself grace for learning and growing are constants when you own your own business.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a mental health therapist and work with couples and individuals. My specialties lie in relationships, divorce, self-esteem, self-care, and trauma. I am trained in eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) and emotion-focused therapy (EFT). My passion for educating people on boundaries and self-care sets me apart. Most people think of self-care as getting your nails done or getting a massage, but it’s so much deeper than that. I saw a need to teach people about proper self-care, so I created a course called the Self Care Masterclass, which will launch in 2023. I also write a weekly blog on boundaries, self-care, and relationships that you can access from my website. Those who sign up for my email get exclusive content, including more information on self-care.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I always want to connect with different helping professionals (doctors, yoga instructors, massage therapists, mental health therapists, etc.) to build a referral base. Signing up for my email is the best way to support me! I’m open to meeting people for coffee or virtually if they want to network and build a business relationship.
