Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Clancy.
Hi Angie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My husband Matt & I have been married for 41 years and have mostly been business partners for the same time! We have always been in the service industry, from our background in west county to now in Rosebud, MO. We operated Clancy’s Irish Pub & Grill in Ellisville, MO, for 30 years. We realized we wanted a slower pace & moved an hour west to Rosebud. We returned to our roots, Matt as a meat cutter and myself as a baker. We opened Clancy’s Marketplace in 2011. But at the time, we were still involved in the restaurant. We closed and sold our original spot in Rosebud to help out the business in Ellisville. Fast forward 3 years, and we couldn’t wait to return to business in Rosebud! We built a building next to our house in 2021 and opened up a smaller version of the original market focused on fresh, local & seasonal items! We have a passion for serving the community through our market! We are happy to say we have finally settled into this community, pursuing our dream!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ha ha! It’s been many ups and downs, but we look at every hard time as something to overcome! Faith and fortitude are the Clancy family motto, and we live by that daily! Our advice to anyone with a dream of owning their own business is to keep it small & keep it all! Never give up on your dream. It may change and move in directions you never thought but stay with it. Never give up! Don’t worry about what others are doing; focus on your dream and your business!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We both are very passionate about our market! I am the baker. My recipes are family ones we have been making and serving family and friends forever! The best of the best! I love cookbooks and search out new items to add all the time! Our most popular item is our Gooey Butter Cakes and our fruit pies! People come from all over to get them! We usually sell out every week! We have delicious cookies every week and different pieces of bread!
Matt is the butcher! He was raised at his family meat market and is glad to be back to his roots! He created our Smoked Summer Sausage, a savory, Smokey summer sausage that we can hardly keep in stock! He is passionate about finding the most delicious tender steaks to sell and can hand-cut them any way you like! We look forward to expanding the meat part of the market this summer! We may be bringing back his small batch of bratwurst! The thing that sets us apart is that we are a mom-and-pop operation. We are the ones who greet you when you come in! We love people and enjoy every customer who walks through our doors! We try to know everyone by name and treat our customers as friends! We make all the items we sell ourselves or buy from small local producers! We love searching out delicious & unique products to stock our shelves with!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid taught us a lot! Don’t give up! Keep moving forward! Take nothing for granted!

Angie & Matt are truly amazing people. They care for people and their passion to serving the community shows in everything they do!
