Daily Inspiration: Meet Jason Karr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Karr.

Hi Jason, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My Posse in Effect. We’re a 7-Piece Live Tribute to The Beastie Boys based in Saint Louis, MO, formed in 2015. What was supposed to be a one-time show became a touring band and a huge success. Since the band’s incarnation, they have been selling out home shows and touring the country, spreading the gospel of the Beastie Boys. They have an exceptional engagement in Saint Louis, at Delmar Hall, for the 10th Anniversary of Mission Taco. It’s happening on April 6th at 7 pm/doors (show at 8 pm), and Dj Mahf is opening the show.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
We’ve had some struggles along the way, especially during covid. We had built a lot of steam the year prior, put in a lot of miles on the tour bus, and then had to recalibrate, train a new guitar player, and build the steam back up. Still, we are on the threshold of getting back into full throttle and going even harder on booking and touring in the months leading up to next year.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
This is the premier Beastie Boys tribute act, hands down. Taking you through decades of their unforgettable hits, this seven-piece live band replicates the authentic Beastie Boys experience with three MCs, a world-class DJ, and visuals from their iconic video collection. The crowds get to re-live carefree times and always sing along, word for word, in a party atmosphere. Fans of My Posse in Effect are dedicated and cross multiple state lines to see them perform, and with good reason. It’s safe to say that My Posse in Effect forgoes the cloning treatment found in other cover bands to deliver a hard-hitting set backed by live instruments’ rip. DJ Mahf helps weave drums, guitars, and a stage full of voices into a pitch-perfect presentation that does for the Beastie Boys what El Monstero does for Pink Floyd. You’ll never see the actual Beastie Boys again — at least not with longtime leader MCA, who passed away due to cancer in 2012. A tribute act is the best you will get; this one can more than ably do the job.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
We’ve donated just shy of $13,000 to The Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation over the past few years, and we love our city! Also, people often ask if we do private parties, and the answer is Yes!
