Check Out Austin (Jarrell) Kemp’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin (Jarrell) Kemp.

Hi Austin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Yo, what’s up! My name is Austin Jarrell, also known as AJ or J Rell. I am an up-and-coming Christian hip-hop artist from St. Louis, MO. Since a young age, I’ve always been interested in music in various forms. I started elementary school performing in choir and playing the violin. After years of playing the violin, I played in the marching band as a percussionist drummer. During high school, I began writing poetry. Dealing with spiritual battles, I used poetry as a way to escape reality during a period of depression. Desiring to be positive, I would include positive messages in my poetry so that I could later read it when I needed it most. Through Christ, I overcame depression, and I want to inspire those who deal with similar struggles and get a chance to know God and His purpose for their lives so they may be saved. Through my music and testimony, I hope to spread the news of the hope, love, and Gospel of Christ.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, not at all! Funny enough, some of the best songs seem to come from places of shame, loneliness, and fear. I went through some things that put me in a dark spot, but through these things, I was able to learn the truth, and God shows us our truth on how we feel on the inside and what we need to do to grow.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a God Fearing Artist Inspired to Create Music for the World. I’m known for simply being a vessel allowed the privilege to speak to my brothers and sisters through our Father. I’m most proud of my growth through this process; since 2013, God has helped me grow in areas I never saw coming in a million years, and I’m honored to glorify him in all aspects of my life. I’m set apart just by being me and being who God has created me to be.

How do you define success?
Success for me is knowing that someone could listen to the message in the music and help them in whatever areas God has for them.
