Today we’d like to introduce you to K and Erica (any pronouns) Scott and Hallman.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Erica: My mom lets me express myself by picking out my clothing.
K: Although I didn’t start with The Good-ish, it quickly became a love we share. Years of unique self-expression, compliments on my keen eye for fashion, and eagerness to create more sustainability in the world were the foundation of The Good-ish. Now we are vending at more markets, have a vibrant website representing us, and are expanding our reach to more folks in Saint Louis.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We are one part of a large small business community in STL. Standing out among all of our incredible small business friends is a challenge. Pop-up days have their unique challenges as well. It can be super slow, and we need more sales. It can be overcast and wild wind that blows the tent over (that happened). However, you have friends to help you catch the tent, and folks find the piece of their dreams at your booth. It makes it all worth it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re delighted to share our passion for vintage fashion as art for the body and as a form of self-expression. Our brand is centered around body-inclusive and gender-euphoric queer fashion and home goods. Many fashion businesses/brands don’t cater to bigger bodies, and when they do, the options aren’t fashionable. The same goes for queer fashion. Gender-neutral clothing is bland and just a sea of beige devoid of color. We want to be a sanctuary for people left out of the vintage world.
Are any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
K: TikTok, of all things, helps figure out how to get people to engage with our content. Small business owners are also influencers/content creatives, which is a job. For fun to unwind, I love the Webtoon app. My toxic trait is I love to read but only fan fiction (I’m trying to get into physical books. Don’t come for me!)
Erica: I love The Read! Kid Fury and Crissle have my heart. I’m also a giant NPR nerd.
