Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Peterson.
Hi Alex, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I got started by wanting to learn more about sewing. I’m a hands-on learner and wanted to be a fashion designer, but I only made clothes for dogs. I knew the basics of sewing and would make pillow covers and blankets. I wanted to get into more personalized and customized things. In 2016, I purchased my first single-needle embroidery machine, which could do both sewing and embroidery. However, I was intimidated by the machine and stared at it for two years. In 2018, I finally gained the courage to teach myself embroidery. I learned embroidery by watching YouTube videos which were challenging because I didn’t have that one-on-one or classroom experience from an instructor, and I was also a new mom with a four-month-old son. Once I felt comfortable and confident, I began customizing infant clothing. In 2019, I purchased my second machine, my first multi-needle home embroidery machine. I called her “Blessing,” and from there, I could do more significant projects which brought more clientele. In 2022, I quit my job as a Phlebotomist and purchased my third embroidery machine, a commercial machine. I called her “Beautiful Betty” and decided to make my business full-time.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? “NO,” but it has been a great learning experience. I’ve gained much knowledge. Some of the struggles were troubleshooting machine errors, knowing how to fix the mistakes, and maintaining care of the machines. Many people think the machine does all the work, but it’s the prepping before the garments hit the machine. It’s not a plug-in, press-and-play.
We’ve been impressed with AP Embroidery By Yours Truly LLC, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in customized embroidery and am known for bringing the client’s vision to life. I’m most proud that I can offer personalized service to each client to enhance their brand. What sets me apart from others is it’s just me. My business is home-based. I’m a one-woman show, working, creating, teaching, networking, collaborating, etc., for now.
We’d love to hear about your fond memories from growing up.
My favorite childhood memory was creating a CD invitation for my Sweet 16th Birthday party.
