Today we’d like to introduce you to Annette Sundberg.
Hi Annette, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started photographing people very early with a camera my dad bought me at a local garage sale. My passion for portrait photography was inherited and driven by my Grandfather, a portrait photographer in Quincy, Illinois, with his studio. I always did and still do love his images. As a child into my teenage years, you always found me with a camera taking pictures. Out of High School, I was employed as an Office Manager at a commercial photography studio. It was a great experience to witness behind-the-scenes portrait work with an amazing photographer there. In 2005, I dove in and started taking pictures of my daughter, who was just born. By 2008, Sundberg Photography was in business. Over the years, I tried everything portrait-wise to find my niche and passion. I realized how much I love photographing High School Seniors, Families, and Headshot/Branding work. You are not just getting any run-of-the-mill photos with me; you are getting authentic, real photos of the person you are, the family you are, and the business you have and are. When you book with me, you are getting the full experience. I want to educate my clients, listen to their needs, and follow up with images they will love. I want to be there from the start to develop a great client relationship and make a friend. My happy place is when I look at the screen and see an image that makes me smile and warms my heart.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Getting here has been a challenging road; when you start out doing everything, you tend to get burned out quickly, taking on work of all sorts, including work you don’t love. I had to learn what sparked my interest maybe. In this business, you have the comparison game, which can be rough. You have to believe in yourself. I have had to learn how to say no and how to build my business in a way that not only serves my clients well but myself as well.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a portrait photographer in Wentzville and St. Louis, Missouri, specializing in photographing High School Seniors, Families, and Headshot/Branding. My work is authentic. I am most proud of my High School Seniors’ pictures. I love being there to document these young adults’ personalities and giving their parents something to hang on to while their child goes away to college. Sundberg Photography differs from others because I want to give my clients an experience, high-quality products/photos, and a lifelong friend, not just an image on a computer. I strongly believe in print. I cherish all my Grandfather’s images from his work and want my families to have the same to cherish.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have learned that now is the time to get those pictures taken because we aren’t promised tomorrow. Just do it so you have images of your loved ones.
