Check Out Deja McGhaw’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deja McGhaw.

Deja McGhaw

Hi, Deja; thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
Since I was a kid, I have enjoyed media! I started with a Polaroid camera, a Talk Boy, and later on, a cheap camcorder. In middle school, I made up my mind that I wanted to go to school to be a news anchor. I wanted to sit in front of the camera, read teleprompters, and look cute. I graduated high school in 2009, and that fall, I entered my first freshman year, majoring in Broadcast Digital Journalism. This program hopes to prepare us to be “backpack journalists.” This meant exactly what you see now in journalism: Journalists writing, recording, editing, and publishing stories on social media. It was here that I fell in love with the social media side. I began to make my blog on Facebook and later took on managing my old church’s social media. I was good at this and had the skills to do so much with it. Around 2011, my old Pastor, Pastor Apostle Larry J. Baylor, told me, “You know, you could go to all churches and help them set up their social media. He said, “It could be your business!” I only thought a little of the idea because what I did was easy, and why would I charge someone for something that doesn’t take too much for me to do?? December 21, 2018, the Lord led my heart to create a “business page.” Give it, I had no business yet, so I kept it private, but I knew something was coming. A year later, the same month, after many kept asking me to help them with their business, I finally submitted to creating the business God had for me. January 6, 2020, McGhaw Social Media Consulting Services became an LLC in Missouri. Shantell Behnke with the Spiritlifters Cleaning Company became my first client. It’s pretty wild the Lord allowed me to do so right before the pandemic. In February 2020, the world began to shut down, and more businesses and churches, especially, flocked to social media to stay connected when everyone was isolated. Since then, I have trained churches nationwide to have a successful social media presence and gained clients around the United States! I thank God for having his hand in our business!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road had not been smooth, but after the rocks and bumps, I saw how God was still leading the way. I can honestly say that despite having high client seasons and low client seasons, God has still blessed the business.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Christian Social Media Manager who emphasizes helping faith-based businesses and ministries. We have strategy sessions and consultations to educate you and your staff on how to get the most out of social. If you want us to manage your social media while you run your business, we will do that, too! We hope to bring your vision to life and do so with ease. We also create websites and host live-streaming events remotely, on location, and much more! What sets us apart from others is our Christian foundation. We create positive-only content. Our motto is “Social Media Management with the Kingdom of God In Mind!” We also seek to make brands, small businesses, and churches shine, knowing their social media is covered! This gives them more time to focus on more business matters. If you need help on social media, please consider booking a Social Media Coaching or Social Media Management.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I keep God first, stay in his word, stay prayerful, and be humble. This is how we achieve success. I am nothing without Jesus!
