Today we’d like to introduce you to Louie Yokley.
Hi Louie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Louie Yokley was born in St.Louis, MO, on February 13, 1987. I started my entrepreneurship at age 13, producing and recording music. My mother saw I had a passion and ear for music and film, so she invested what little we had to make my dreams come true. Throughout my high school years, I performed in talent shows, took it more seriously, and started working with the local talent in the area. Over the years, I’ve grown my business and taken courses to enhance my skill sets. Not to toot my own horn, I also worked as an apprentice for local legends in the music and film industry. Fast forward to 2023, I own and operate takeover films with a small production team. We do sound recording, photography, videography,360 booths, and podcasting. My idea was to create a hub for the St. Louis entertainment scene so artists could have the resources to take their careers to the next level.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The path to get my start and create my lane has been quite challenging. Growing up as a kid, my family had limited resources and finances. My father was an immigrant who was incarcerated in Cuba in the early years of my life, which caused a great strain on my family. One year in the late nineties, I told my mom I wanted a computer, so she worked two jobs and surprised me for Christmas; that day, my life changed forever. My first love was music, so that’s what I gravitated towards. I started with a cheap handheld microphone that we took from a used karaoke machine I got from Goodwill. We put a sock over the microphone, which muffled the sound even worse, but it didn’t matter. I finally had something that I cherished and could call my own. Throughout my journey, I reached out to different professionals for help and assistance, but I never received the guidance I needed, so I turned to YouTube and learned through trial and error. I made my first hundred dollars off recording people from my neighborhood and never looked back. I still have that one hundred dollars crumbled in an old Nike shoe box. Lol is like my trophy and a constant reminder to always remember where I started. My career has blossomed into one where I can help others and be a resource to people around me. 2024 is looking bright for the company. I plan to help as many people as possible as long as I’m alive.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Takeover production was created to serve clients in the music and film industry. We specialize in videography, photography, audio recording, podcasting, and image consulting. Event planning, all things media. What sets me apart from others is my attention to detail, professionalism, flexibility, and fast turnaround times on all services provided. High-quality services at cost-effective rates are what I’m most proud of. Seeing my client’s vision come to life at an affordable price makes us happy. I remember when I couldn’t afford the services I needed to get the job done, so that’s what my business practice is based around.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Pay for seminars and hang out in places where like-minded people fellowship. Internship offers free services to get your foot in the door. Flexibility, open-mindedness, and willingness to learn and pass knowledge have served me well.
