Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Jackson.
Hi Courtney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started as a graphic designer in 2020 (peak COVID). I came home from college due to COVID-19; at the time, I was fascinated with lipgloss. I started my lipgloss business in 2020. I didn’t have the money to pay a graphic designer to make flyers or business cards, so I decided to learn on my own. I tried to teach myself Photoshop but ultimately took a Photoshop course. After taking the Photoshop course, I made my graphics, and many people asked me if I could make theirs. I started making graphics for other businesses, and shortly after, I learned I liked making graphics more than making lipgloss. During that time, I gave free advice and tips to small businesses. I continued making graphics and providing advice for a year. I took a year-long break to perfect my craft by researching and practicing to better my business when I was ready to launch officially. In 2023, I decided to stop playing with my potential and start retaking clients. Since 2020, my graphics have improved, and I am continuously learning and growing. I am looking to expand my business and offer more services, and I hope to gain more clientele in 2024. By the end of 2024, I want to be more than just a graphic designer; I plan to be a social media marketer.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a challenging road. Ive struggled with staying motivated the most. Sometimes, I don’t have clients, and I get discouraged. I learned that I always post because someone is always watching.
