Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Hughes
Hi Courtney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Courtney is a St. Louis native whose life has been shaped by the resilience and resourcefulness they developed in the face of poverty and adversity. With a keen sense of curiosity and a growth mindset, they learned from the world around them and the support of family members like their dad’s cousin and their grandmother. Today, Courtney is a plumber and aspiring business owner, committed to finding their truest self and helping others reach their fullest potential.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up in poverty can certainly shape a person’s life in profound ways. There were times of deep struggle for me and my family. Parents divorced when I was 7, moved in with my grandmother and step grandfather in North St. Louis City, and years later both of my grandparents passed. We were having housing issues at one point, dad couldn’t keep all the bills paid on time, the usual poor city kid situations.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a plumber and an aspiring business owner. As a plumber, I specialize in providing high-quality, professional plumbing services to my clients. I pride myself on my attention to detail, my problem-solving skills, and my ability to deliver timely and effective solutions. I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients over the years, and the fact that they trust me to handle their plumbing needs. What sets me apart is my commitment to continuous improvement—I’m always seeking out new ways to improve my skills, expand my knowledge, and better serve my clients. As an aspiring business owner, I hope to one day own my own plumbing company, where I can continue to provide top-notch services to my clients, while also creating job opportunities in my community and mentoring the next generation of skilled plumbers.
