Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Walsh
Hi Bryan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Paint Louis was founded in 1997 and continued through 2001, following a hiatus, it was restarted in 2013 and has continued since.
I joined the Organizing Committee as Artist Coordinator in 2019.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We’re always seeking more sponsorships. The Paint Louis wall (the flood wall for the Mississippi River) is 2.5 – 3 miles long, and for the past couple of years of the festival, the wall has been FULL of graffiti writers and muralists who are invited to participate in the festival. Artists come from all over the U.S., Canada, Germany, and more. The festival has hosted KRS-One, Souls of Mischief, and this year Rakim, who are all hip hop legends.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an abstract painter based in St. Louis, MO. I maintain a studio practice on Cherokee Street, and I am a member and co-founder of the Screwed Arts Collective. I am Artist Coordinator for Paint Louis, and I opened Fifteen Windows Gallery in February 2024.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
In no particular order: food, water, sleep, my wife Stephanie, my cat Xander, my family, music and art. They’re all things that make life better.
