Today we’d like to introduce you to Kita Shah
Hi Kita, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After graduating high school majored in fashion at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale after that I returned to St. Louis and started cosmetology school and got my licenses in 1997 worked in a salon that I could continue to learn from and then went to a salon that was very professional so I can learn how to run a business in addition to that I was a local model and was approached to do a popular artist video which led me to Hollywood and signed to a major agency so I worked as a model actress for five years and then moved to Chicago to open up a business with my sister which was a beauty supply and salon put together and it took off and we did well after the success I wanted to start a family so that’s how I ended back in St Louis while here I opened my salon in N County and after that lease was up I moved Downtown St Louis and been here for 14 years now
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part it has but nothing perfect in the beginning I would get quite a few younger stylist that didn’t understand the business and after a while it became stressful trying to teach them what to do and what not to do so I down sized and now it’s just my barber and myself which I am fine with
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a hairstylist I’m from an era where we take care of your hair in addition to texting styles I specialize in hair care and extensions of all sorts I’m most proud of the name I’ve made for myself because it draws an elite clientele
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice to finding a good mentor is listening and not being so self absorbed finding someone that’s been around and is willing to give positive advice is priceless don’t dismiss the achievements thinking it’s bragging or some sort but it may be something in it for the mentee to take from it
