Check Out Aida Vukovic-Ibisevic’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aida Vukovic-Ibisevic

Hi Aida, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My parents and I moved to St. Louis from Bosnia in May of 1998. I’ve lived here in St. Louis my whole life. I graduated high school from Bayless senior high. I continued my education by going to Paul Mitchell The School St. Louis and I graduated with my cosmetology license in 2017. In 2020 during the pandemic my husband Muamer and I got married. In 2020 before the pandemic I started working as an independent stylist at Just in Style Salon & Med Spa. I absolutely love it here. I am so blessed to work with such empowering and supportive females around me, but besides my work environment, my whole family and my husband Muamer are very supportive, they have helped me go and do things in my career that are beyond my comfort zone. Like back in September 2022 I was given the opportunity to attend New York fashion week as a stylist, something that I only thought was a dream. That was a big eye opening experience. It was one thing that really helped me get out there and be more confident in my work, and in myself, not just as a hairstylist but as a person.
I enjoy spending my time outside salon with my husband and three fur babies, Stella our German Shepherd, and two kitty cats Pablo and Mufasa.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been completely smooth. It was very hard getting out of cosmetology school and figuring out where I want to work and what environment do I want to be around? Especially going to a school that is very well-known and a lot of people coming out of there have become very successful. It was a lot of pressure . A lot of places ask for you to work as an apprentice or as an assistant and that was one thing I knew I did not want to do . Also, being fresh out of school, it’s hard to build clientele and making a steady income so you have to really push yourself out there and give it your all even with the clients that you don’t want to deal with you still have to, and each day is a learning experience. With even being out here in the real world on a salon floor so many years later, you still have obstacles, but all of them are lessons worth learning.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a hairstylist. I specialize in hair coloring. I am certified with Bellami Hair extensions, keratin tip extensions , I tip extensions, tape in extensions, and sew in method. I just recently became certified in V light hair extension method.
I am known for doing all the fun colors and crazy colors. It’s truly my favorite part of my job.
I am mostly proud of being able to give clients the hair that they have always dreamed of especially with extensions. A lot of people have very fine thin hair, and or their hair won’t simply grow. But, with extensions that gives them the opportunity to fulfill that dream, to have the most beautiful hair. Sometimes even just as something simple as that can make someone’s day.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I’ve learned along my journey is sometimes you can’t make everyone happy and sometimes you have to tell people no. As much as it hurts to tell a client “no, I cannot do this for you” or “ doing the service would compromise the integrity of your hair”. I’ve learned my lessons where I’ve said yes and it has come back to bite me or their hair got ruined because I thought it could happen. It has broken me a few times where I have thought, why am I even doing this anymore? Do I still want to work with people but at the end of the day I have a passion for it.
