Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Steil
Allie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been doing photography for 10 years this year and I absolutely love it! I got my first camera when I was 14 by trading free babysitting with a local photographer. I am forever grateful for her and her helping me start my journey. Throughout the years my business has changed names but my values and want I strive to capture has stayed the same. One thing that is really special is to me is that my aunt always told me that I have an eye for photography. My family lost her to cancer a few years ago, and anytime I feel like giving up or compare myself to others, I keep going and remember what she told me. I offer a variety of sessions including but not limited to events, couples, seniors, family, and maternity. I know that not everyone can afford photography services so I always like to work with them because everyone deserves to have their memories or accomplishments captured. Another passion of mine is counseling/psychology. I graduated with my Bachelors in Psychology at UMSL and I am currently in a Masters program at Mizzou for School Counseling. I love being able to capture such special moments in peoples lives and seeing their joy when they receive their galleries.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is always hard to not compare yourself to other photographers because there are so many others. It can also be hard when you don’t get bookings which can happen because there are slow periods where people just don’t book. It happens but you just have to push through it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
One thing that I tend to be know for during session is singing. I will sing loud and proud just for some giggles! I also like to say I have a style but I also like to match a photo to coloration. If I don’t feel like the color works with an image I will adjust until you can feel the image and feel the session.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel that communication and personality is very important in photography. It can be hard to connect with people you meet so having an open and fun personality can help make the session fun and less awkward. It is important to make sure they feel comfortable because that is when you will get the best images.
