Today we’d like to introduce you to basement sessions
Hi basement sessions, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
So this started out as a thing to do for me and a few friends while bored during the beginning of the pandemic. Then over time we had bands ask to be a part of the series now three years later its still going strong and our mission to grow the STL music scene is still the same we want the basement session series to be as close to experiencing the band live as you can get in video form. So we shoot in 4k and record in realtime high quality multi track audio. The thing we pride ourselves in is all the audio and video in each session was recorded live during that specific take. Also we dont charge bands to be apart of this as well. This is my love letter to music and our scene.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth. We have faced and are still facing challenges. At first the challenge was the studio was legit just in my basement in my home in south city so trying to convince bands to come to house was a challenge and not a ton of room to work out of. But now that we have moved our biggest obstacles are scheduling and cost.
Like I said we do all of this for free to the bands so it can get pretty costly on our end.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My profession is IT professional.
So by day I am working on any number of tech related issues one faces in day to day office operations.
Outside of that I have been a musician for 26 years and doing live sound/recording for most of that time as well.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
In reality there is no perfect answer, but what i can say is that being genuine and honest about where you wanna gonin your life is the best way to ask for mentorship or even advice. In my personal experience people want to give back and pass on their life experiences, but it has to fall into the values they hold or it really doesn’t work.
