Check Out Brianna Cook’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Cook.

Hi Brianna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always considered myself a creative person however it wasn’t until about 5-6 years ago that I really developed the passion for dressmaking. I remember being at my sister’s bridal shower playing the toilet paper dress game saying “I’m gonna be a wedding dress designer one day.” Life and death truly lies in what you speak!! I started off only making skirts because at the time it’s something that I considered really easy. It wasn’t until December of 2018 that I created my first evening gown to attend a winter gala. This gown helped build my confidence in my craft and pushed me into another level within my business. After I made that gown, I took the leap of faith and booked my first 2 prom clients the very next month. It did not take me long to find out that dressmaking was my passion. Though it can be a very intricate process at times, seeing the gown come to life and my client’s reactions is simply inexplainable.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Lol, I don’t even believe that smooth roads exist! I’d say the biggest obstacle that I had to overcome was to stop talking about it and to just do it. It was obvious that I had the gift, but I had to learn to believe in myself. I allowed fear to grip me for so long that I kept making excuses. I had to learn to hold myself accountable because people can encourage you, motivate you, inspire you, etc. but it’s up to you to put in the work! I couldn’t count on anyone else to take the leap of faith for me. I also had to overcome a bunch of what-ifs and the mindset that everything had to be perfect before I started. I’ll always learn and elevate in my craft and I witnessed that experience really is the best teacher.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I describe myself as a “God-taught” Seamstress & Fashion designer specializing in women’s evening wear. I’m known for creating gowns that exude beauty class and elegance for all shapes and curves. Sewing is my craft and I don’t look for any shortcuts during the process of dressmaking. Whether it’s your prom or wedding day, I am most proud of helping my clients look and feel beautiful and truly bringing their dream gown to life… I also take pride in providing my clients with an exceptional customer experience as well. I make sure all of my clients are included in the FULL dressmaking process. What sets me apart from other dressmakers is that I will only create designs that reflect my brand well. When people think of Virtuously Coutured I want the first thing to come to mind is beauty and elegance. If that means that I have to turn down a few clients that may have another vision then I am okay with that.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is cooking for my siblings and I. Growing up I always watched my grandmother cook, and she would always watch cooking shows on tv. I remember being 8 years old cooking full-course meals lol. I’ve always been a visual learner which has really helped me express myself creatively.
