Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Corners
Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Moonbird Yoga (formerly Yoga Core and More) first opened its doors in 2011, becoming the first yoga studio of its kind in the Metro East area. I started attending classes in 2014 and quickly fell in love with the practice. By 2018, that passion led me to enroll in yoga teacher training—I simply couldn’t get enough.
Not long after graduating, Therese Blomberg (now my business partner) reached out with a life-changing question: Had I ever thought about owning a yoga studio? At the time, I had no idea that the place I considered my second home was on the verge of closing. Without hesitation—and with no clue what I was getting myself into—I took a leap of faith to keep the studio alive.
With a 20+ year career in marketing and my current role as VP of Marketing at Tivity Health, a company dedicated to supporting health and wellness for seniors and employees, my passion for well-being runs deep. Merging that expertise with my love for yoga, Therese and I purchased and remodeled an old building in downtown O’Fallon, giving Moonbird a fresh start.
In February 2020, we celebrated our grand opening—only to shut our doors just 17 days later due to COVID. Within 24 hours, we transformed from an in-person studio to a fully online space, training our 20+ teachers to livestream classes from their homes. Over the next year, we found creative ways to evolve, launching new classes and initiatives to diversify our revenue streams.
Fast forward to November 2024, and we’ve expanded our community by adding a second studio in Breese, IL. Today, we are blessed to have over 50 incredible teachers across both locations.
Beyond our studios, we also host annual retreats in Costa Rica at The Retreat Costa. As I write this, I’m spending a month here as the resident yoga teacher, leading classes for guests and retreat attendees—living and breathing the very practice that changed my life.
We lead yoga teacher trainings, workshops across all health and wellness modalities. The studio offers free yoga classes weekly at O’Fallon’s Vine Street Farmers Market (during the Spring and Summer), free yoga classes at O’Fallon’s Public Library twice a month.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If anyone says that owning a small business is smooth sailing, I am going to call them on it!
The journey has been anything but smooth, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Owning a business while balancing a full-time executive role has been both rewarding and incredibly challenging. But every challenge has been an opportunity for growth.
One of the biggest hurdles came just weeks after opening our newly remodeled studio in February 2020—when the pandemic forced us to close our doors. Almost overnight, we had to pivot from an in-person studio to a fully virtual experience. We trained our teachers, adapted to new technology, and found creative ways to keep our community connected and engaged. It was a crash course in resilience and adaptability, but it also reinforced just how strong our yoga family truly is.
Beyond the pandemic, one of the biggest challenges has been balancing the demands of entrepreneurship while leading a marketing team. Running a business isn’t just about passion—it’s about the countless behind-the-scenes tasks that keep everything running: clogged toilets, snow removal, retail opportunities, scheduling, teacher development, community engagement, marketing, and financial sustainability. And through it all, the most important priority remains ensuring that every student who walks through our doors feels welcome, supported, and seen.
There have been late nights, early mornings, and moments of doubt, but every challenge has been an opportunity to learn, grow, and refine what we do. A key part of that growth has been building an incredible team—studio managers who keep each location thriving and a talented graphic design and social media manager who elevates our brand. By allowing each person to focus on their zone of genius, we’ve been able to expand in ways we never imagined possible.
Speaking of expanding, we opened our second studio in 2024 added another layer of complexity. Growth is exciting, but it also means navigating new logistics, supporting more teachers, and ensuring that our culture remains strong across multiple locations. With every challenge has come a lesson in leadership, adaptability, and trust.
And yet, every obstacle, every hard day, and every leap into the unknown is worth it the moment a new student walks through the door. Seeing someone take their first class, watching them grow in their practice, and witnessing the strength of the community we’ve built makes all of it worthwhile. Challenges aren’t roadblocks—they’re stepping stones. Yoga isn’t just about the physical practice—it’s about connection, transformation, and belonging. That’s what keeps me going.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At my core, I am deeply passionate about mental health and well-being, with a commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and empathy in marketing. My career began in 2006 at e-commerce startup MonsterCommerce, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of empowering marketing teams, launching 25+ websites, supporting 60+ product releases, and mentoring over 75 marketers, writers, designers, and product engineers.
Today, as VP of Marketing at Tivity Health, I help support seniors and employees on their fitness journeys—and I wouldn’t change it for the world. By day, I am a marketer; by life, I am a yogi. In addition to my work in marketing and yoga, I am also a Reiki practitioner, offering healing energy as a powerful modality that keeps me grounded and balanced, especially when navigating the business side of things.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love working with people who are passionate about wellness, community, and creativity—whether in marketing, yoga, or beyond. There are many ways to collaborate, from partnering on health and wellness initiatives at Tivity Health to exploring opportunities at Moonbird Yoga, whether as a teacher, student, or retreat participant.
For fellow marketers and business leaders, I’m always open to conversations about innovative ways to connect with audiences, create meaningful experiences, and build strong, purpose-driven brands. For yoga and wellness practitioners, I welcome collaborations on retreats, workshops, and events that bring healing and transformation to more people.
Supporting me means supporting the communities I serve—whether that’s taking a class, joining a retreat, or simply spreading the word about the work we’re doing. And, of course, I’m always happy to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for well-being, growth, and making a positive impact.
