Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started as a teenager with a love for music and a dream of turning that passion into something more. With every paycheck I earned, I invested in building my sound system piece by piece, allowing me to take on bigger shows and grow my skills. After high school, I packed up my gear and moved to St. Louis, determined to make a name for myself in the nightclub scene while building a mobile DJ business on the side.
Over time, I became the resident DJ at a local nightclub, where I honed my craft and truly learned the art of mixing. After nearly a decade in the nightlife industry, I started to shift my focus toward mobile DJing and weddings. It felt like a natural progression, and I quickly fell in love with creating memorable experiences for couples on one of the most important days of their lives.
Now, as the owner of Abell DJ Company, I’ve been able to combine my love for music with the joy of making people happy. From seeing the excitement of a couple’s first dance to keeping a packed dance floor all night, I can’t imagine doing anything else. DJing is in my blood, and I’m grateful every day for the opportunity to do what I love.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—like any journey worth taking, it’s been filled with challenges. In the early days, it was tough balancing my passion with the financial realities of building a business. Every piece of gear I bought came from saving and reinvesting, often requiring sacrifices to make it all work.
Breaking into the St. Louis nightclub scene was another challenge. It’s a competitive industry, and I had to prove myself, starting with smaller gigs and working my way up. There were also late nights, long hours, and the occasional technical hiccup that comes with learning the ropes as a DJ.
Transitioning from nightclubs to weddings and mobile DJing brought its own set of struggles. Weddings are incredibly personal events, and the pressure to make every moment perfect for a couple can be intense. I had to learn how to balance creativity with the professionalism and reliability clients expect.
Building Abell DJ Company wasn’t easy, but every challenge taught me something valuable. Those experiences shaped who I am today and made the successes even more rewarding.

How do you define success?
For me, success is about making a positive impact on people’s lives. It’s seeing a couple’s joy as they share their first dance, hearing the cheers of a packed dance floor, or knowing that I played a part in creating memories that will last a lifetime. Success isn’t just about accolades or financial milestones—it’s about the relationships I build and the trust my clients place in me to be a part of their most important moments.
On a personal level, success also means balance. It’s about pursuing my passion while making time for my family and cherishing the moments we spend together. If I can make people happy through my work while staying true to who I am and what matters most, that’s success to me.
